improve iPhone Web App performance

Coworker and friend of mine Wayne Pan just made a blog post about using base64 encoding to cut down the number of HTTP request on iPhone WebApps. It's a cool trick. Check it out:

I've researched this, too. I haven't yet decided for myself whether I should go this route, given the cache limitations of the iPhone:


I'm considering trying this out on the desktop browser version of the pages (I use a special server-side function to include my external resources that uses far-future caching...I can modify the function to do inlining instead of copying the resource to a cache-friendly name).
