I think it was made clear there would be no Java already in January
2007.

I do know of one game company that "bet the bank" that Flash would be
embedded in iPhone's Quicktime and produced a catalog of "iPhone
Games" that simply don't work on the iPhone.
Must be venture funded.

Allowing Flash into the mix would take away a lot of Apple/ATT's
control over your "media experience". They've already given up the
internets, but my guess is ATT is forcing Apple to keep the gates only
half-open on the online video / audio / conferencing front.

Flash isn't on *Apple's* phone because *Apple* didn't want it there :)
The reality is that att sells many phones, low, medium and high end,
that support feature's that apple's phone does not.
Apple's phone doesn't do these things because apple doesn't want it to.
The only ATT "branding" on the iPhone at all are he letters "ATT" at
the upper left of the screen on practically every screen.
Additionally, the notion of the quiet apple/adobe war having
something to do with this is wacky as well; apple could have included
at the minimum flash 7 support since there is a working open version
of it that functions as a plugin (even on arm arch) and has been for
several years.
No offense - but have you ever used Flash in OS X? Memory hog, memory
leaks, CPU killer....
Is this Apple's fault/decision? Most definitely. But you sound like
you are actually deeply critical of the decision because Apple decided
they wanted a 1.0 device to not crash in one way or another. Flash on
a mobile device is usable - barely. Flash via EDGE? Ouch!
I suspect there will be some kind of Flash offering on iPhone someday.
But I can live without it.
Oh yeah, and AT&T is only at fault because their 3G network coverage
is below average. For now.
As for the OP.... on July 14 you were _just_ informed about all this?
Wow.
My issue is with (again, as I stated) people that believe the lack of
flash, 3rd party tools, or anything else *not* on the phone really
has anything to do with ATT at all :)
Leave the fanboyism at home; I make my living off of and in the Apple
ecosystem...not that I was attacking Apple, anyway :)
Welcome. Enjoy your stay here :D
