Emailing Data from iPhone App

Is there a way to have the app email a string of data automatically,
without having to go thru the Mail.app? Or is it something thats
discouraged or frowned upon by apple since its sending data from the
users phone albeit with the users knowledge but not with the users
express and explicit authorization?

Read up on web services.
Your problem is a no-brainer really if you are a decent web app developer.
Yes, you will need to write a simple server app - Ruby on Rails, PHP, .NET - take your pick!
A script to send the e-mail with the appropriate mail headers & body is all you need, and then invoke this web method from the iPhone client.

I don't mean have an app open the Mail.app and the user hit send. I
mean have the app email data from your iPhone without the user having
to do anything except open the app. I wonder if apple frowns upon it
or not.
