The Center of Every Storm contains a calm "I". This is the place where the
direction and destruction of a storm can be stopped. This place of calm
exist inside all of us and is best seen in our Unity of Reason and Purpose.
Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do in your life? These are not
questions that Indigenous or First Peoples should have in their lives nor
should they be in such conflict within their own Nations. This is not First
Peoples Traditional way of resolving conflict. The present day internal
strife within the Nations is both deeply and intentionally influenced by
"outsiders" who have arrived in their lands. The fundamental difference
between these "new comers" and First Peoples is called "ownership and
title" which are identified as; personal, corporate, and Governmental or
Crown Land and resources. The concept of "ownership" in First Peoples Land
is communal or "ownershiip in-common."
The understanding of who a person is within First Peoples Countries is not
only identified by House, Clan, and Nation - but is inseparably connected
to the land. The entire story and tradition of every person is an imprint
and direct relationship to the land of their family, House, Clan and
Nation. The purpose of life is to ensure the survival of all those around
you and to provide for the generations to come with this direct
understanding of your place in your Nation and the Land upon which your
Nation stand. These ways are the Laws of the Land and Nation - they say *Who
* your are; they say*Where *you are from; and they say *What* you do in
your life - all others are "outsiders" unless they are invited guests or
allies. The "outsiders" have many representatives called; Governments,
Treaty Commissions, Special interest groups - like the Church, industry,
hydro commissions, and political lobbyists. They are all motivated by one
goal in trying to obtain access to your Country and it's resources.
The understandings needed to see solutions to problems are sometimes
difficult to see because they are directly in front of us and we have been
blinded by our own suffering. The fact that Governments are saying they
are in Treaty Talks and that these Treaty Talks are - Nation to Nation;
they are in fact stating openly in their own country called Canada - that
they are speaking to another Nation - Country - different People - in
Nation to Nation Treaty Talks. The logic then prevails that if they are
openly saying they are speaking to another Nation - that *until some union
of state and law are made between these two Countries - neither has any
legal jurisdiction in the others' "title" Lands.* (This is why any legal
talk with foreign courts satisfies only the concerns of the "outsiders" -
as was made very obvious in recent legal turn-arounds by these courts on
almost every decision they made when it concerns First People and their
Lands.)
One of the many strategies used by "outsiders" is to turn the Nations
Peoples against each other using their "outside legal system" and
convincing you that you must present yourself to "their courts" in matters
concerns your lands and your people. This is almost always done with issues
concerning money and conflicts initiated by the agencies the "outsiders"
have installed within your Country. These agencies or aspects of "outsider"
infiltration are in many disguises - Band Councils - Treaty Negotiating
Teams, Tribal Commissions, Tribal Councils, Impact Benefit Analysis Team,
Environmental Review Groups, Economic Enhancement Groups. Many of the
people *selected* to be in these groups are chosen by "outsiders" and they
are just human beings trying to take care of themselves and their own and
get what they can before the "canoe" sinks. There are many who truly want
change for the People and enter these groups to make a sincere effort to
help. They soon find themselves becoming despondent and unless they are in
charge they quickly realize their independent thinking and intolerance for
ANY corruption, gets them in trouble and they are promptly told - DON'T
ROCK THE CANOE!
This inside control of communities, achieved through the many different
institutions, has put everyone at risk with the dependency on outside
monies and social programs. It is important to see it for what it is - *a
dependency on a system of control *where people from within are now doing
the wishes of the "outsiders" in containing the "indian problem." The
presence of corporate/industrial entities are also"outsiders" represented
by such things as; forestry companies with raw log dumping, mining, oil/gas
exploration - production and transportation, hydro electricity and water
resource extraction - ALL ARE FORMS OF INVASION into your countries. The
rate of resource extraction is accelerating because local and global human
consciousness and opposition is rising to the damage these corporations and
Government agencies are causing.
How can an entire Nation get out of this *institutionalized* invasion of
their Country while maintaining the true integrity of their own laws,
customs, entitlement of Land and rights to all the resources of their own
Country? The answer to this is within each and every person of the Nation
and within the Traditional Laws of the People and Land, which are over a
thousand years older than those of the "outsiders." The Land is your
Country and not a territory or legal part of some other entity called
Canada - or an entitlement - or a reserve - otherwise what do the words *Treaty
Negotiations* between Nations really mean. The issues in your Nation are
identical to all those of your neighbors and it is in this understanding
that you find your solution. The solutions can be found inside Traditional
Law - not Canadian courts, because in reality they do not have jurisdiction
or ANY legal "standing" in your internal affairs.
Corporations and foreign interests are trying to control and strip away
resources. Combined this last fact with Canada's continued failure to
respect First Peoples, and you can easily see how they are directly
related. The circumstances of present day events are forcing a solution and
that is -*the unity of First Nations in the entire Region*. Once this has
been done the Nations can turn directly toward their collective problems of
corporate ownership of natural resources sold by governments that have *no
legal rights or standing* in your Country. The entire world is facing this
identical dimension of greed but none so directly as in the areas of the
First Peoples Worldwide. The first level of Unity to strive for is with all
your neighbors. The second level of unity is internationally with all other
Indigenous and First Peoples facing these exact issues or different
versions of the same invasions. The third level of unity will be with the
millions of people worldwide attempting to stand against the same corporate
ownership of resources, control of National Governments, Bankers that
manipulate them both and the destruction of our planet.
A Grand Council can be called - made of all the Highest Chiefs and their
spokespersons, all the sub- Chiefs and all the Heads of the Houses and
Clans. During a time of such dire circumstances for the Nation, a person or
group can be appointed by the High Council to seek negotiators to settle
outside affairs. This Grand Council would also have a seat at an
Inter-Nation Grand Council of your neighbors. The issues facing each of the
Nations will be easily seen in the similarities of the influences of the
"outsiders" and the inner turmoil that exists inside the Nations. A very
strong media presence broadcast to Canada and the rest of the world is
essential stating that your Nations will not allow any further outside
destruction of your Countries. This media presence will have to be other
than Main Stream Media until they can no longer afford to avoid covering
the truth. The Unity and Standing of all First Peoples will be immediately
felt by the withdrawal from all treaty or RESOURCES utilization talks
between Nations. This action would be taken because all efforts to find
honest arrangements have been seriously corrupted and unduly influenced by
corporate concerns and Government programs designed to coerce and influence
outside interests from within the Nations.
The stand taken by First People on their own land, can be clearly
identified as the exact problem the entire world has with greed - in the
name of economic growth - rather than generosity in the name of economic
sustainability - for the generations to come. Corporations and Governments
are not people - they are a means to contain and control people, while a
small select few get very wealthy and continue to get richer by keeping us
all in a state of conflict. The relationship between Indigenous and
non-Indigenous people is starting to focus on our common goal - ***the
survival and protection of this earth and the Peoples upon this Land -
worldwide. That is the Unity that Governments and Corporations and their
Agents inside your Nation do not want to happen. That is the unity that
exists in traditional LAWS and in the true Nature of ALL Things AND WILL
SAVE THE ENTIRE PLANET.*
