I was thinking about C's the Day earlier today, actually. I'm not sure
there's much of an inherent connection between the two communities, but
I love the idea of (at the very least) suggesting that a quest or two
could be fulfilled there.

(Plus, we have 3 former winners who regularly attend the caucus.)

I agree with you, Jeff. It's probably not a major deal, and it DOES take
some of the pressure off having the "best-est" featured session ever. We

I doubt it karen. Honestly, i dont think this set back is a big deal. It
should not change anything. . In fact Adam recently told me that the
sigs are not going to get automatic presentations. We just need to make
sure the caucus will run as it always has.

Disappointing, right? But in terms of the proposal for the caucus itself, I think we'll proceed the same way we usually do. Right? This week, I'll send a link to a Google Doc this week with what I have so far, and everyone will continue to volunteer for roundtables.

The biggest difference in our plans in general is that we won't have a featured session. Yes, that takes away some of the pressure to offer the bestest-ever featured session (which was worrying me, given the small number of volunteers for it)--but it doesn't mean we can't still offer a roundtable on "openness"--though it's unclear if we would be able to call it "sponsored by the IP caucus." But the only people I've heard interested in that are Charlie and Laurie, so I don't have big hopes unless someone wants to dive in, take the lead, and recruit those who don't have plans to submit proposals for other speaking roles.

Well, that's unfortunate. They seem to be pretty clear on what needs to be done in re-applying, though, so that's at least a little bit of a positive. I sure wish they'd shared the successful application with us beforehand.

What I was suggesting was even a broader topic panel on what is openness. I
that call will result in a lot of assumptions about the meaning of that
word in an IP context. A roundtable on that focus would be a very good
choice given the CFP.

As I continue to work on drafting our proposal for next year's caucus, I could use a bit of conversation on 3 things:

1. If our application for standing group was accepted (which I haven't heard for sure?), we need to have a solid plan on what our featured panel will feature. Charlie mentions below the good point that an open access panel would be perfect for the open theme. Is anyone interested in debating that, making another suggestion, or volunteering?

One other thing to note. Be sure to vote comments up and down. It changes
the order in which the posts are displayed. So even if someone doesn't feel
like posting, they can still change the tone of the conversation to those
who come after. Also, check the read more link at the bottom. There are
some really good new posts down there that haven't received many votes yet.

Perhaps it would be good goal for the caucus to unofficially (so that we
don't need CCC/NCTE approval) sponsor something similar next fall or
spring? I bet we would could one of the textbook companies to sponsor the
event, to pay for say webinar software usage.

Good work! Glad this is getting attention. I think, from a publicity
stand-point, this is a valuable moment to ensure that broader membership in
the CCCCs knows that 1) The CCCC IP stance on this and 2) That CCCC IP
Caucus and Committee had a good deal to do with this resolution. I think

Interesting article. It is also interesting that Turnitin seems to be

The Chronicle of Higher Education is reporting on yet another case
where a cease-and-desist letter appears to have been used for its
chilling effects. According to the article, Colin Purrington

Hi Charlie, Just to clarify -- this version of the resolution is
correct. The typo occurred in the printed version that was to be read
to the assembly at the business meeting (and was corrected then).
