Inside Higher Education has an article about the motion that the
caucus and the IP Committee pushed for.

Interesting article.  It is also interesting that Turnitin seems to be getting people to speak on their behalf.  I'd love to see a few folks respond that were active in writing the resolution.  Any takers?

Cheers,

Doesn't need to be just those active in writing the resolution. I think it should be all of us. I'm sure some of those comments may be Turnitin schills.

Even if someone only wants to go in and post a quick confirmation of what someone else has said without offering anything new with just a sentence, that will help.

Good work! Glad this is getting attention. I think, from a publicity stand-point, this is a valuable moment to ensure that broader membership in the CCCCs knows that 1) The CCCC IP stance on this and 2) That CCCC IP Caucus and Committee had a good deal to do with this resolution. I think that helps us get word out that the IP cau/com is an important part of CCCCs that does valuable work. Then, maybe more participation from membership. That's the end goal: Get more folks involved in these issues. I'd be help contribute a quick blurb, maybe we could start a Google Doc and invite everyone to contribute? That way it's a stronger document?

Best,
tra

My comment is up now too and I gave a link to Stephanie Vie's "Turn It Down, Don't Turnitin" webtext for those in the thread who aren't out-and-out Turnitin shills. If you haven't seen it yet it's at http://www.bgsu.edu/departments/english/cconline/spring2013_special_issue/Vie/

I posted again. I think we should stay on that discussion as long as it is active.

One other thing to note. Be sure to vote comments up and down. It changes the order in which the posts are displayed. So even if someone doesn't feel like posting, they can still change the tone of the conversation to those who come after. Also, check the read more link at the bottom. There are some really good new posts down there that haven't received many votes yet.

I wrote what I thought was a great (!) response, and reasonably short), but I've been reading both the Chronicle and Inside Higher Ed stories so interchangably that my comment started off with something  like "What the Chronicle does not say in its article....blah, blah...," which I didn't notice at first. Then I saw more and more comments show up, and I thought, "where's mine?" "Those jerks, etc..." to myself. Then it dawned on me what I had ACTUALLY written....after I finally searched and searched the Chronicle for the story again later. Only then did I realize they couldn't really post it. By then, everybody else, especially Charlie and Nick and others had jumped into the conversation and said in other words what I had said, too.

Serves me right. I need to make sure I get my publications straight! I had also intended to put a link to the actual resolution, which never got up there, but by then it was a little past news. Besides, I had trouble keeping my mind on things with all the Boston bombings, the memorial, the manhunt, the lockdowns, etc. So I was distracted. But it did make me mad at myself, because I remember all of it, since I helped revise it. I know many of the earlier and later versions are still on my computer. Ahh well...
