Kristen Suchor told me that our application for standing group status had been received, but that was all. Probably take a while on that one.

The open access panel suggestion would be a better fit in that regard than the multi-person panel suggestion below. Maybe we might want to throw out some more ideas it to see if there are other alternatives?

For example, there are always misconceptions in how those new to this topic interpret terms such as "open source" or "open access" (and I would argue misuse/misapply the concepts). As opposed to necessarily focusing on cutting edge IP scholarship that might be interesting to us, but won't bring the larger 4Cs audience along as well towards a better understanding of openness.

Our new bylaws (assuming the draft is accepted, editable here<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dUZSdD-PUeEI6oFhP5zyTfxTde6PmU0OA_HDufJAF20/edit?usp=sharing>) say we'll always have one table for "emerging legislative concerns," and I suspect we should also have one on pedagogy and one on open access scholarship. Do you want to lead or co-lead one of those tables, and do you have other suggestions?

Sponsored Panel: I heard two possibilities mentioned for this: the journal table suggested a panel on open access scholarship issues, and the pedagogy table suggested a multi-person (8?) roundtable of people sharing stories about tricky issues they've faced regarding plagiarism, copyright, fair use, etc. in their roles as teachers and scholars. I'd like to chair (or co-chair?) the latter regardless of if it's our grey-box panel. Any strong feelings about how to approach this?

We also mentioned that if we put together a pamphlet (or even just a really solid list of links) of practical advice, we could distribute it both here and at the sponsored panel.

Okay--I got that one too.

But what do you think we do, then? Submit a proposal for a featured session and just assume it will all be cleared up in time? I'm happy to check with Kristen on that one, if you're not sure.

Hi Kyle,
Just confirming my plan to be one of the roundtable leaders at the
Caucus (on journal policies). I am particularly following the trend
of "chilling effects".

I won't be able to participate on the featured panel or in the
workshop, but I would assume that the IP Caucus will have a featured
session. i.e., I think that we should have a featured session ready.
And I agree with Charlie that a roundtable on different aspects of
"openness" makes a lot of sense for bringing in the larger CCCC
membership.

My 2 cents,
Karen

I'd be willing to be included in the panel and/or the workshop.

Hi,
I didn't make it to the Caucus this year, sorry, but it sounded like a good one, as always. I was at CCCC, but I just couldn't get there until Wed. night. I would be glad to serve on whatver role you would need me to, Kyle, and everybody else. I'll certainly be able to attend it since it's in Indy.

I haven't been checking my gmail account in the last month, however, so if I'm totally late to the conversation here, please forgive that. I've been switching emails and locations in the last year a lot, so sometimes it's hard to keep track of. This past Sunday, however, as I was looking at this other Google Group I'm a member of, I realized that I was stiill on this IP one. So, I will be more faithful about checking it. Lately, because I'm in Boston, it's been a little crazy, to say the least. Meanwhile, I can connect with members of the Boston Rhetoric and Writing Network to see if anyone is interested in helping out for next year, if IP is in their interest area. It is still on my radar, so that's all good.
