Subject: Draft of IP Caucus promo video--thoughts?

Hi folks,

I’ve been emailing a bit with Mike Edwards and Jen Michaels about
making a promo video in hopes of bringing more people into the caucus—
especially needed because the Wed. a.m. workshop that Jen, Lanette,
and I proposed wasn’t accepted, thus losing us the opportunity of
funneling interested folks to the caucus from the workshop.

So: I’ve uploaded a draft of a video to YouTube at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc9_uVkFMKs. It’s currently unlisted,
so no one should accidentally drop by and see it yet. I’m in that
drafty place where I want to just pronounce it done, but I’m still
willing to fix it up more if necessary.

If you have a couple minutes to watch it, I have a few questions:
1. Those of you featured in Tim’s Kairos piece will see that I grabbed
screenshots of your faces from the videos. Does anyone want to request
I not use their likeness? (Sorry for not asking until now. I got into
the creativity of the moment and dove in.)
2. Similarly, I grabbed faces from the top banner of the main CCCC
page to use as characters in the video—again, without asking
permission first. I’d like to email the people whose faces I used, but
I admit I don’t know any of their names. Anyone want to identify any
of the 5 people who appear in the first 10 seconds?
3. Do I represent the caucus correctly? Mike and I emailed about this,
but I want to make sure there are no egregious errors.
4. The music at the beginning was meant to be purposefully lousy,
something to make W afternoon at C’s seem square until the super hip
IP caucus folks appear. But on rewatching, I find it’s my least
favorite part. Is it so bad that it should be replaced?
5. At 7 minutes, it’s annoyingly long. I’m considering cutting the
whole Paramount mountain part in the middle and trying to redo the
narration to get it closer to 4. Think that’s worth it? Anything else
worth cutting?

Thanks for helping out on this crazy week. If the video is good
enough, let me know ASAP and I’ll post to Twitter and the WPA-L. If it
needs revising, I can get a revision up by Thursday (but not before).

What fun we are, right?

Best,

Kyle

Hi Kyle,
Thanks! This is great fun, and you're welcome to use my image from
the Kairos piece. (Is Tim OK with it, too?)

The images from NCTE have alt tags with names. In Firefox, you can
right click on a photo, and then choose "view image info."

I think that it's worth cutting the Paramount segment... perhaps
leaving just a teaser, "Is this fair use?" or something more clever to
get people thinking about the issue.

I did start to notice the music, since I was trying to put it together
with Kirk. But, again, it might be useful to have a teaser to call
attention to the remixing.

Best, Karen

I think it's so rad, as is--fun, informative, and inclusive!
