Hey a fix this late is better than never right? I just had the same
problem, and to fix it I gave myself full rights to the folder, seemed to
work fine... I also sped up the loading screens a bit too

Thanks for the reply. Was not sure on the status of the project so that's why I was offering. No problems. I'm glad to see things are still moving along. A sham ego see these things slip aways with the years..

Did you ever play Never Winter Nights on AOL? The old gold box SSI game? Have you guys thought about trying to bring this back too? I can't seem to find any info on the original server software.

Also, speaking to the game functions themselves, Ben (the lead
programmer who started INNRevival in the first place) has begun the
process of rebuilding the server on a more flexible language and started
working on the Post Office features last week, so we're in pretty good
shape! :)

project to try and offer him/her free permanent hosting for the INN
project. I would love the project to have a nice fast server.
Would be good to see also if all sections are working in game too. Like the

Looks like server has been down

haven't been able to connect all week. to the INN revival server. was

That's going to be your best bet. Collector may know why it's crapping out.
(I can't remember if his Inn install has a Diagnostic tool that he has for
the other Sierra games he's made installers for).

So to conclude, I am going to post my issue on the Sierra help forums.

None of the existing installers work with Windows 8 64-bit (the second
option crashes after second launch).

Some people are having luck launching from a custom DOSBox
setup independent of the available installers.

It is probably UAC. It is installing to the program files x86 dir and
saving its config there. And on launch it is opening the congig files
read/write and windows is giving you the finger. I overrode dir and subdir
privs on my config.

If the installer works fine, but DOSBox crashes when trying to launch to
start INN, there is something wrong with the settings in DOSBox.conf.
I'm running everything on Windows 8 perfectly fine.

Agh, yes that's what I meant. The INN program itself crashes at launch. The installer itself works fine.

Also, that other installer works fine...once. If you try to run the program a second time, it fails.

Installer works fine here on Windows 8 64 bit however it won't launch INN
when you run it. I use my already installed dosbox version to play anyway,
but tested installer after I saw your post.

All, after much discussion, it was decided that we will not be accepting
donations/contributions of any kind. When money rolls in, taxes and
other things come into play that we don't want to deal with.

I am an old player of the old network and was glad to see that someone is
making an effort to bring this back. I know that by todays standards, the
imagination network is ancient but it is those old games that bring back
memerios. What I am wondering about is there a way to make a donation to

I'd wager several people would be interested. If there was a higher
population of people this would be so much easier. But there's only a
handful of us who cling to this - and once we factor in real life, time
zones, etc - it's get difficult. That said, I say try to gather one anyway!

Yes, I assign the new points when I reach a new level. I have done that

Well, I'm not entirely sure. But, have you been going to the Guild Hall (the stone building on the left side of the opening screen across from the Tavern) and using your Skill Points and Spell Points to increase your attribute levels after each level? Strength, Defense, Agility, and Initiative numbers go up as you spend your points on them. In other words, those particular attributes don't increase automatically as you level. You need to assign them manually. However, that does not explain how your basic Defense attribute actually decreased by 1. You might be using a lesser shield or something. The other way attributes increase is with the items and spells you are wearing or using.

It is doubtful that this project will be abandoned any time soon after investing so much time and effort into it. Also, any development code that you write on your own, and do not receive a paycheck from a third-party for it, should become your own intellectual property. If you choose to share that code as open source, that should be your decision entirely. And in the interest of a centralized server, I would not expect this code to be open sourced until the day comes that the project is abandoned.

That's a shame.
Of course it would be best for the community to be united using one server,
but:
1. I find that highly unlikely - the community is small as it is, I don't
believe it would split.
2. There is much to be gained by a joint effort on the development of the
server if it would be open sourced.
