Constitutive mTOR activation in TSC mutants sensitizes cells to energy starvation and genomic damage via p53
The manuscript by Lee et al. describes an interesting and detailed analysis of the relationships between cell growth and stress response. The authors report that constitutive mTOR activation in cells lacking TSC1 or TSC2 increases the sensitivity to nutrient starvation or DNA damage presumably by TOR-mediated amplification of p53 translation.
ERK activation causes epilepsy by stimulating NMDA receptor activity
Based on conditional brain-specific expression of a constitutively active form of MEK1 Axel Behrens and colleagues report on a novel link between MAP kinase signalling, Eph/Ephrin and NMDA receptor signalling in the context of epilepsy.
