why so little activity?

Just curious why there isn't much activity on this forum....

Didn't notice much activity in the Southern California RAT section of
TriumphRAT dot net either.

Is this lot more of a "face to face" meeting bunch?
If so I'd like to know when & where (saw nothing on the calendar) so I
can join in!

Hi Stasinos....in my experience on this and several other Triumph
forums over the years for Triumph enthusiasts it's a common themse
that there is not a large amount of online banter among the members. I
can't decide what it is exactly but probably a few things. People who
own Triumphs are often older than the guys that buy japanese bikes so
they are less likely to be heavily involved in online forums, the
brand does not have a single or even just a couple of themes with
their product but instead has sportbikes, naked bikes, classics,
cruisers, adventure touring and touring so finding Triumph riders with
enough similar interest to talk to alot is hard.

What we do, (Doug Douglas Motorcycles as well as IE RAT) is promote
riding by having our twice/month BS sessions and when we are in spring
and fall we have rides. The guys that are the regulars are great
people and we have developed alot of friendships so much of the reason
to get together is to see people we know. When we have rides we often
have people that we've never seen before and it's not unusualy to have
10, 12 or even more riders go along.

My advice, keep on the forum and when we announce rides you will hear
of it that way. Also, if you're in the area come to one of our 1st and
3rd wednesday of the month get togethers and meet a few of the people.
Right now attendence is very low since it's been cold at 7:30 at night
but we are still going and I have missed maybe 2 or 3 in the past 4
years.

Art, I think you hit the nail on the head..........most Triumph riders
are older and have other priorities ( Family, Career, etc. ) and
riding is not now their number 1 interest. We all still like to ride,
wish we could more, but we sure enjoy it when we can ! Thanks again
for all your time and effort in putting together the rides you do,

I think we all like reading the posts but we seem to be too busy to actually post much. There seemed to be more activity when it was a general discussion kinda thing, rather than confined to just riding, but people seemed to have gotten offended by views different than theirs, so the discourse slowed way down. I personally didn't mind the varied political / social views.

lol...you put that very politely Don...I was a main "offender" with my
opinions that some people were bothered by so I quit cold turkey. Now, I
will hold my tongue unless asked for my opinion. I have alot of those. But
yea I also enjoyed it. It's funny though that a small % of people didn't
want the general banter but they never filled it in with something else
either. I think that's a statement about our society in general in there so
I'll stop before I get going.

A ride that is. How about March 18th we go to Joshua Tree and hope that the
flowers have bloomed? We can meet for breakfast Sugar Shack in Mentone and
then ride out if that sounds good. Plan on a 200 mile day in all but several
stops so we need to start early. We will rescedule of the weather looks at
all questionable since it's too long a day with too many good views to be
spoiled by bad weather.

I'd like to get enough people together that we can have a few small groups
so everyone can enjoy the pace they want to ride and yet not ride solo in
front or back. Planning ahead enough we can get 15 to 20 people.

It will be the day after St P's so no need to wear green.

Thanks for the insight.  That was my inclination, but I wasn't certain.

I posed the question because I just joined the group, and was surprised to see there wasn't an organized ride, when January was as "rider-friendly" as it was.

I can clearly see there are plenty of active users (proven by how quickly the responses were posted) on this forum.  I appreciate the lack of non-stop pointless banter I have noticed on other forums.

I ride a 2007 Thruxton, and look forward to meeting the other Triumph riders in the area.

overlook at the end of Salton View Rd (in the park). If we loop back

I'm in. I can probably use the relief/steam blowoff after St. Patrick's Day at the bakery. Sunday rides usually work for my schedule, too. BTW, Art, my Bonne is running like a trooper. That new Avon back tire was just the ticket. I like the more aggressive tread than the stock tire. I can definitely tell the difference, especially riding in the mountains and on the freeway. Thanks again to you guys at Doug Douglas for helping me put the new stuff on my bike after I fell down and went boom. You guys are truly the best.
