Any news on the J-Tree ride?  Are we meeting at the Sugar Shack?  10AM?  What route?

I'm excited because I've been wanting to do a J-Tree ride for a while now, and I've totally been practicing riding the motorcycle.

How about March 18th we go to Joshua Tree and hope that the flowers have bloomed? We can meet for breakfast Sugar Shack in Mentone and then ride out if that sounds good. Plan on a 200 mile day in all but several stops so we need to start early. We will rescedule of the weather looks at all questionable since it's too long a day with too many good views to be spoiled by bad weather. I'd like to get enough people together that we can have a few small groups so everyone can enjoy the pace they want to ride and yet not ride solo in front or back. Planning ahead enough we can get 15 to 20 people.

So it's not looking good guys. Rain expected and even if it doesn't I doubt any of us are lookin forward to a ride of ~200 miles in the cold with no sunshine on the great views we were hoping to see. I'm pretty dissappointed. Lets tentatively reschedule for the 25th and if that doesn't go then we will scratch it in favor of the April 22nd ride.

Speaking of, where did we decide we are going on the 25th? I'd like to get that solid and invite a bunch along.

Went to Joshua Tree this past Saturday and even though it was sunny and 70 degrees at home it was too cold for Amy, almost too cold for me.

Hi Art,

Did you mean April 22? If so, it looks like so far we've got a few in favor of Borrego Springs - which I think sounds great, too. Nothing has been officially called yet, though. I guess I was waiting to see if many more people would pop onto the forum with an opinion so we could evaluate a good solid concensus...I'd rather be known as "the democratic new guy" rather than the "totalitarian" one, haha.

Anyway, I could see how having a locale nailed down before we get any closer to 4/22 could possibly help others plan better though, so, what do you all think about setting Borrego Springs as our 4/22 destination? Let me know!

For the purposes of headcounts, so far 8 (Bo, Scott, Theresa, you, me, my wife, brother-, and father-in-law) have expressed an interest. I could maybe get 3 of my other friends to come too, but I don't want to create the feeling of crowding the normal group you guys have with other random people none of you know (though I think you'd like them all :) ). Yet, if you feel like once we get closer to the date that the group's not overly large and you have room for a few more, let me know and I'll spread the word to those three.

I think that Art is saying 3/18 is rescheduled for 3/25. I can't make it that weekend (it's the Redlands Bicycle Classic) but y'all have fun. I'll still cross my fingers for some good weather this weekend. I'll post here if that happens.

I'm in for a Joshua Tree ride the 25th if everyone else is good with that. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Let me know if we are going to do it for sure and where to meet. We are always welcome to meet at our bakery, but it might be too far west for most folks. Thanks, and let me know.

ps. Art- I may come and see you pretty soon for airbox removal/new pipes or just new pipes. Any thoughts on the the yes/no debate on putting the airbox removal on EFI Bonnies? I get half the people I ask saying it's totally worth it, half saying it doesn't make that much of a difference and just stick with new pipes.

Scott - I had the air box removal and Arrow 2 into 1 pipe done. Absolutely no doubt it breathes better with the K&N pod filters on. Very noticeable improvement. To smooth everything out and tune it in perfectly, I put a power commander on and had it dyno-tuned. It dynoed out at 65 hp to the rear wheel - a significant improvement over stock. IMHO - absolutely well worth doing, no doubt.

Scott, if you want to ride my Bonneville and see the difference for yourself, we can switch bikes for a while on the next ride.

Whether you go with all or just pipes is a question really of how much you want to spend. My suggestion is get the pipes and decide if you want more. Stock the bikes are about 52hp at the rear wheel and they will get closer to 60 with pipes and a tune change.

Thanks, Art! That was kind of the direction I was leaning. I was thinking about the British Customs Sleepers or the Norman Hyde Classic Silencers. I want something that keeps the classic lines of the bike, but still has some cajones. Any thoughts on those or any other "classic" looking pipes?
