After much anticipation, my new book, "Crosswords from the Underground," has at last hit shelves! It contains 72 already before seen puzzles from the past several years, handpicked from among the grids with the fewest typos and the least outdated pop cultural references.
In addition to the crosswords, the book features all-new commentary by Ben Tausig, with inside stories, constructing secrets, sordid tales, and so on, for each and every puzzle. Here's an example from #17: "Most constructors use a piece of software called Crossword Compiler to put together their puzzles. Crossword Compiler has a 'blacklist' feature that alerts you to curse words in your grid - whether forwards, backwards, or diagonal. It's a tad paranoid; the list includes things like SPORTINGLADY, ARSELICKER, CAMPFOLLOWER, and FORNICATRESS, which first are way too long to end up in a puzzle by accident, and second are just plainly ridiculous. For this grid, I got fifteen alerts for the word HO."
