New issue 9 by mcourtot: material entity
http://code.google.com/p/information-artifact-ontology/issues/detail?id=9

Hi all,

The term material entity has been moved from OBI to IAO (IAO_0000018) but
is now missing its metadata.

The OBI biomaterial branch would like to propose the following:

new proposed definition: A "snap:IndependentContinuant"
("independent_continuant") that is spatially extended, and its identity is
independent of that of other entities and can be maintained through time.
example of usage: collection of random bacteria, a chair, dorsal surface of
the body (examples chosen to cover the 3 cases of BFO objects)

I could update the file on the 24th if no objection.

Thanks,
Melanie

why should this be moved to IAO?
i would be more friendly towards adding it to BFO (as a new parent of
object, object aggregate and fiat object part, and child of
independent continuant)

Hi Barry,
It's currently in IAO, but moving it to BFO sounds good to me.
Thanks,
Melanie

Why are terms disappearing from OBI? It seems to have been replace
with a class with no metadata from IAO. It would make sense to add it
to BFO, it that is the decision.
