Folks -

Here's an update on the RAID
MIB WG and SMI BOF.

RAID MIB WG proposal:
I withdrew the proposed charter
for the RAID MIB WG based on
a current lack of interest from
the community. (See attached note.)

There will not be a RAID MIB WG meeting at the
upcoming IETF meeting in Montreal.

SMI BOF:
A SMI BOF is scheduled for the upcoming
IETF. The purpose of the BOF is to address
the IAB decision on the Dave Perkins
appeal on the v2 SMI. Specifically, the expected
outcome of this effort is a document
clarifying the ASN.1 used for SNMPv2.
The session will be chaired by Christian Huitema.

RAID MIB Folks,

Attached is the proposed charter for
the RAID MIB WG. I've received some
mixed feedback on the need for this
work as an IETF working group & the dates.
The original draft charter & BOF notes
are in the December'95 IETF proceedings at
http://www.ietf.org or try
http://ds2.internic.net/ietf/95dec/raidmib-minutes-95dec.txt

Please review & send your comments to:

  o Deirdre Kostick (kost...@qsun.att.com),
  o Bert Wijnen (wij...@vnet.ibm.com), and
  o Tom Battle (tbat...@corp.adaptec.com)

by next Monday (June 3).

Specifically, we're looking for feedback on:
  o schedule
o need & interest in having this work done
    by an IETF WG

FYI - There are two slots "on hold" at the upcoming
IETF meeting in Montreal pending official
creation of this working group.

Thanks,
Deirdre Kostick
IETF NM Area Director

Description of Working Group

The RAID MIB Working Group is chartered to define a set
of managed objects for SCSI-based RAID(Redundant Arrays of
Independent Disks) systems and subsystems. These objects will be
the minimal set necessary to monitor and control these devices,
and will be consistent with the existing SNMPv2 standards.

The MIB module(s) resulting from the efforts of the Working Group are intended
to be submitted for consideration to the IESG for entry into the IETF
standards track, i.e., as a Proposed Standard.
