Photos taken at different times between 4th March 2011 to 27th
April.Last 2 taken in the afternoon.
Location - Home - Los Altos -[next to Palo Alto - close to San Francisco ]
Habitat - Garden
Mild fragrance.

I think it is Magnolia liliiflora.

Dr. Raman:
I think you are right, this is the 'Tulip" tree magnolia that we have
in the NE states, blooms are spectacular, jjust as the snow melts and
spring thinks its coming,often its April 1st...
so I think you are right...
But ...how does one decide ...
Since there INNUMBERABLE hybrids of Magnolia....
how does one really know which is it?

It can also be
Magnolia X soulangeana a cultivar, a cross between Magnolia liliflora and Magnolia denudata.
One such tree is present in San Francisco botanical garden.
