[Satish Phadke]

The phylotaxy (Arrangement of the leaves) attracted my attention to this roadside plant in Pune. Must be some weed as I observed it at different places.

This is called PENTASTICHOUS PHYLLOTAXY.

Hi, it is also called 'mosaic' pattern of leaf arrangement. The lower leaves will have longer stalks and the upper/ younger ones have shorter petioles, in order to receive maximum sunlight by all the leaves without any obstacles.

Picture no. DSCN2874s is Acalypha ciliata and the remaining are A. indica.

Thanks Nayan ji, Pankaj ji, Santosh ji and Vilay ji.
In fact all pictures are taken from same area. Some plants were more mature as in picture 2874 probably nearing fruiting . So less likely that they are of diff. species.

On closer look I think there are many apparent differences like in the shape of the leaves, shape of the sepals, inflorescence etc.
I think Viajayasankar ji may be right in saying that these are two different species.

I can only say...it is becoming interesting and I will have to go again to look for those plants after searching the literature
By the way I could find one post about similar plant but somehow the picture is again somewhat not very clear.
