Dear All :

I am a little confused...
about nomenclature:

if this is Roystonea regia of Roystonea genus ... then its NOT a
bottle palm...
they two different animals..
Natives...of different regions of the world and
one is prolific. the other is redlisted...
(the true Bottle Palm is Hyophorbe lagenicaulis of genus
Hyophorbe...)

so may be I should wait someone who is studied palms tells me what it
is...

(Nolinas are also sometimes called bottle palms to confuse the issue
with the true bottle palm...never confused with the Royal Palm) ....

Thanks, Usha di

There are more than one species which are called Bottle Palms.
Its like Fan Palm, anything with a fan like leaf is a fan palm!!
A true bottle palm is Hyophorbe lagenicaulis.

yes Pankaj ji:
its called dragon fruit... has white or reddish pink pulp with green or red skin on the outside...
you wash it
cut it open..
thousands of black seeds and puld show up
you use a spoon ( special spoons with serrated ends, originally designed to eat grapefruits.. is best) to scoop out the pulp and eat... seed and alll.

eat it as after dinner fruit with some cheese... like brei or soft cheeses .. (not blue) ...
yum...

we get it in India... in hotels like the Grand or Taj in Delhi where they get these exotics flown in esp for their chefs...
I get it at Oberoi Grand in Septemeber once in awhile.. iffy supplier...

enjoy..

Gurucharanji...The thread I was thinking about was not this one... it was about the Brahmakamal flowers, where we had a similar discussion... I was not  amemeber when this particular thread happened in January...

Ushadi

PS I wonder if these seeds are fertile and can produce the plant... niteblooming cereus???

yes I saw the pics. I know the fruit. Its very well available in the
market and most probably they cultivate it somewhere here in HK
itself. Will try my luck. Internet says its laxative hence one should
try to test is before eating!!
