Hi, Anand ji,
What is this infamous Kubabool? Why it's so called? I found Acacia nilotica in search as Kubabool at http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en&q=kubabool&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

Kubabool is actually lucaena leucocephala. There is an interesting story behind this tree. This is exotic, and people impressed Mrs Indira Gandhi of its virtues. Indira said somewhere that it should be called su-babool instead of kubabool. and the name stuck. It is good fodder, but beyond that there is nothing to write home about. It is a spindly sparse tree with hardly any value. Today when I saw your query I had to do some surfing to know the correct botanical name. The story about the tree and Mrs Gandhi I remember from my field days. All the best.

It is Acacia leucophloea.  Plenty are seen in Tamil Nadu.   There are long stretches  of these trees on eithe rside of the road  from Madurai to Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu).
