dont take these two otionals..they become very heavy on U ....individuALLY both are good as the first optional..polituical science books and guidance available at delhi only....wheras history u can get it at mnay places...
both ar vast ..so dont commit the mistake of taking both together

as abt my credentials..i have qualified IES and working in ministry of power at group A post and have given mains 2009 with pub ad and geography

regards

I would not recommend this combination.I feel sociology can be a good option with political science. It helps in the essay paper as well .I have done my graduation in History hon's and political science was my subsidary subject.History is very vast as compared to sociology.

Best wishes ,
Yogesh Joshi.

yes omsingh
...its very much possible even if u have not taken the subject in pre....the prequisite is..
1. u shld have collected th ematerial before hand ..and not just material the right material
2.u shld have read opional 2 atleast once .. u shld knw what to read and from where to read...so that in the end its just kind of revision

the idea being..to complete geog and GS after the pre..
and believe me..the time after pre is the MOST imp..coz everybody sharpens and studies during that period..its like launching urself ...and those 5 months are sufficient
regards
deepak
just lemme knw if u have given the pre ...and what subject

hello harshita...
choice of the optional one is most critical as it decides wheather u take take the journey onwards or not...i wont recommend any particular subject but i will tell u some criterias which will help u in taking decision...
1. The major subject in ur graduation...
2.Interest generated in a particular subject after looking  the syllabus and PT question paper...coz lack of interest wont help as PT requires long and dedicated hrs
3.The guidance and right material available...is also important coz the means are as important as the end...

finally i would advice ..dont jump to any subject ...take ur time

regards
deepak

hi harshita,
wat i ll sugest is right now u focus on ur academics. bcoz by next year UPSC prelims will not have any optional papers. n for mains by 2011 no optionals ll be there. so one thing wat u can do is read news papers regularly n go for general studies subject only. that is - the hindu n times of india, one monthly magazine, spectrum or unique publications for GS, manorama or csr year book, india year book. focus on this. rest we ll update based on UPSC notification. wish u all d best.

hi,
about second optional subject i ll sugest public admin. n not history(im having history) as it is too vast n too difficult with this new trend(look at 2009 mains q paper). moreover pub ad students are prefered by UPSC.
