Looks like this discussion group has gone cold. Anyway, is anyone out
there? Has there been any hint of progress on the new game?

Hey,

There are definitely people here. The latest message from the
developer (Journeyman) regarding progress on the game was,
" "Release in two years" is a REALLY OPTIMISTIC guess. I don't
do dates anymore because all they do is pressure me, disappoint
others and increase potential burnout factor. I'm really glad
I chose to write a roguelike rather than a graphical game, as
the technology doesn't date. :) "

The date that was posted is not really relevant, because two years was
not a definite timeframe. Be patient.

I figured as much. I just hope that the author still has time to work
on it and other things in life haven't completely prevented him from
doing so. It's really a great game. So far I've only ever made it to
the second level of the dungeon. :P

Hopefully we'll see the new version in the next two years. :)

I've no doubt Journeyman is chugging along at his own pace, and it'll be released when it's done.

(But secretly, all I really want is the old Incursion, with all the crash-bugs fixed and all the unimplemented things removed.)

With the description of the features the full versionshould have, I'm
more than willing to wait!

On another note - I know there used to be another "beta testers"
Incursion Google Group (I used to be amember, but changed my gmail
address) - does anyone know if that's still going? / if it's any more
active than this group? If I'm remembering correctly it was invite
only, which probably explains why I can't find it in search.

I am also eager for the new version, although I wish waiting did not take so long. :)

The beta tester group is even quieter than this group. There has only been one new post in the past 6 months.

I'm willing to wait as well. Just glad we have this version at least. The game is amazing and I love playing it...and can see the potential.

The only thing that worries me is that Journey said that it probably wouldn't be out in 2012-2013. I mean, that's a long time from now. That's potentially 2014 or even further beyond. I'm not complaining at all as it is what it is, I just hope it can get done because it'd be so nice to play. But a lot can happen in two years you know? Lives can completely change.

Here's hoping we see it and also good to see some people posting on here as well.

I'm still here watching Incursion. I just keep hoping that it doesn't
die entirely. After downloading Incursion sometime late 201o, the old
version was one of the most enjoyable roguelikes I've played, and I
eagerly look forward to the new version.

Best roguelike of all time, would love to see an updated version.  As of right now it barely runs on windows 7 64bit.  With the resurgence of roguelike popularity the author should consider doing some crowd sourced funding like indiegogo, hint hint.

If the developer could make a reuseable class library I would be willing to pay for a license.  I would pay up to $500 for it.  To make what is already present in Incursion is a significant task.  If the developer can make the D20 system they have implemented into a class library and are willing to license it, let me know.  You could even use something like that as a reward on Kickstarter.com

The plan, from what the ingame manual has to say about the IncursionScript tools included in-game, seems to be for Julian to finish his own flavor of Incursion first; I do wholeheartedly support a Kickstarter, though. Free (well, if you were going to make the game anyhow) money, dude.

I know he's recoding a significant portion of the game, so I don't know if mass crowdsourcing would be the greatest idea until he's got the thing to work like he wants it to. And while I'd totally give him the hell out of my money via kickstarter, he might just want to keep it as a hobby. I don't know. What say you, Journeyman?

I should check here more often; sorry for missing this.

No Kickstarter. Incursion is 100% non-commercial, though
I may eventually release parts of it for other people to
use, when the "big version" is done, and if I do that I
won't forbid commercial use. I'm not anti-commercial or
anti-corporate on ideological grounds, in other words.

Also: I absolutely intend to finish Incursion, and want
to very much -- but that's not quite the same thing as
being willing to take on an obligation (moral or legal)
to finish it in exchange for money, especially not to
finish it on a schedule. I don't need the pressure.

I'm a software developer. I work full time and make a
salary that more than fills my needs. Money can't make
this go faster, sadly. What I need, and have trouble
finding, is spare time. I love Incursion a lot, but I'm
not quitting my day job for it. But I am, still, working
on it.

I have some health and sleep related problems that
also cut into my spare time. I try to work around them
as best I can, and I'm thankful that compared to many
people it's totally trivial health problems. But it
does affect productive spare time to be fatigued a
lot.

I'm not releasing any source until it's "done", which
is still in the indeterminate future -- honestly, probably
later than 2014. I have a personal "vision" for Incursion
and I want to express that before I give the bits to
people to tear apart and use to express their own
vision.

I may try to get a full book of tabletop RPG rules
out in a year to a year and a half, which would be
essentially Incursion, playable with pen and paper.
The tools used to generate this are also the backbone
of the game logic, so it would be a major step toward
playability there -- but not a playable game. That may
also not happen -- you all know how I am with dates
and deadlines by this point -- but it's a loose goal
for me at this point.

I would play the tabletop version in a heartbeat. Love the game, play it at work while I'm "working" (watching an email box).

Many people, including developer, mentioned several times that development
is active. Lead developer mentioned that there were some slowdowns but
everything is going on.

Search this group for previous messages, there are similar questions like
this.
