Remove Rating Function from Stars Display

Hello guys,

on one of my projects, we want visitors to rate an item only if they comment it.

What is the cleanest way to remove the "rating-on-hover" function? I mean something better than juste removing javascript.

Other thing, when we rate an item and comment it, we have "no rate" radio button, along with standard rates ones. How can we remove this option? I had a look in php virtual files, but didn't found a solution by myself.

Try taking away the permissions to RATE on the top category (for everyone).

This way JS will not be active and you can enable this at point later on.

I just want to remove mouse-over-stars function, not the rate sytem itself.

Hi Phil,

There is a Rating option on Add Comment/Review which is part of the Comment. If you do what say - it'll disable RATING on it's own while Rating with Comment (on it's own form) still will work since it's part of the Commenting process.

Dmitry Phil wants to separate rating and reviewing processes totally.

So "rating functionality" will be disabled until user will add his review first.

I really don't see why it is needed, since one user can't add more then 1 review to 1 link.

guys, may I didn't well explained my need:

we want users to be able to rate items, but we want them to rate only if they leave a review, like it's done on many major websites actually.

that's why I ask to remove rating-only ability. And Dmitry's solution is working fine :)

I see now. So you didn't see rating control on review form.

we needed to remove rating control on starts for 2 reasons:

- remove ability to rate without reviewing

- on review form, you can rate 2 times the same link: by clicking on stars displayed on top AND by selecting a choice on review form, and thus they can vote 2 times

So you basically need somehow to check if user has voted before and if not show him a voting control on review form too.

well, as I said before, Dmitry's proposal is working: when I disable rating, user cannot rate anymore by clicking on stars, BUT can still rate the link using review form, which include in all cases a rating element.
