Hello,

in v510, I needed to copy some categories to another folder. The categories themselves have been copied for real, with a new ID for each, but original folders had also links inside, and these links appears twice (same ID) in the newly created folders.

Is it a bug, and how to remove these links from new folders?

Phil.

Hi Phil,

Can you please repeat this again in step since I can't replicate
(5.1.1-Beta1, clean install)

1. Create a category and new Link inside

2. Copy that category.

As a result I have New Category and New Link created.

Can you try on clean install and specify your server profile (OS).

DA.

Hi Dmitry,

it works correctly in 511-b1, and I think it also work wells in v510, but the website I'm talking about is in real conditions (25 categories, 10 langs, 3 themes), does this DB loads could affect the way it works sometimes?

In addition, how could I remove these links from new categories? Deleting them also delete original ones, then I even cannot remove everything to replay the process.

Thanks for help!
Phil.

Wasn't able to reproduce. Links were copied (names were the same), but id's were different for both links and categories, that were copied. Tried on 5.1.1-B1, but copy/paste code wasn't changed for a long time.

Hi guys,

thank for your attention, I've found the problem: while folders have
been "copied", links had another treatment: they had their "section"
tab updated with the new categories added here.

This isn't appearing as a bug anymore to me, but rather a clean way to
duplicate folders while keeping contents.

What would you think about having, like Word does, 2 way for pasting:
only folders, or folders + content?

Sorry not to have thought about this, I wasn't aware of this behavior.

Phil.

Yes, for quite a while we were thinking about implementing 2 paste modes:
  • regular paste - create new copies of links and other items in category
  • paste shortcut - only creates new categories and add them to existing copied links on "Sections" tab instead of creating new links
There was not enough activity related to such functionality so it wasn't implemented that time. Good, that you've mentioned it now.

Hi guys,

I do ask myself, while would I need to copy Categories and have Items inside to be added to them?

I see more point being able to Copy/Paste both Categories and Items, or just Categories skipping the Items?

I forgot to talk about 3rd option: Paste ony folders and subfolders (without content).

It's just an idea ^-^

In my case, I had 15 categories, whom their names were translated in 10 languages, and I didn't wanted to create them again to be able to reuse them in In-News (as News sub-categories).

That's same, what Dmitry suggested before you.
