Hello,

I've tried Custom Fields for different modules and In-Portal itself,
and I've found the following things:

- radio button
when I choose "radio button", in-portal will display (while editing
an item) a blank radio button, followed by the radio button we have
created

- multilingual field
I'm not sure if this is a bug, when I create an option with
"multilingual field" checked, I have a translation icon appearing on
item editing ( Ä ), and when I click on this icon, I have a pop-up
window to translate something... what are we translating exactly here,
as we can use a lang tag to display field name? And don't understand
either that this translation is unique to each item... I'm
confused :-)

I hope I'm not wrong ^-^

Phil.

About "- multilingual field" that translate icon translated that specific custom field on each of the languages for given category item being edited.

if I understand well, this option permits to translate a custom field
name individually for each item being edited, bypassing the common
translation given by regionnal lang pack?

Not name, value. That's same icon as for product name or description.

but how can 1 translating field can handle the 2-3 values when I
choose radio button for example? Does it belongs to the first empty
button, as I reported?

That's unrelated issues.

Alex,

I've related all of this in the first post, I can add a screen capture
if I'm not clear enough...

Alex,

here are the screenshots.
As you can see, I create 3 radio button options, and it displays a 4th
blank one, even when I de-activate the multilingual support.

Now I see. That empty option was supposed for dropdowns and somehow appeared in radio buttons as well. That's a bug.

ok.

the multilingual field is another thing, I can fill the field for
english, I can save it, but when I open again the item, this
translation doesn't appears anywhere, is it normal?

About custom field value translation interface: this interface wasn't changed from the time it was invented in 4.x or older version. When you click "Translate" icon (under field name), then popup window is opened, that allows to translate custom field value (only makes sense for custom fields of "text" or "textarea" type) on any of languages, available in system.

You will only see result on Front-end, when you display that custom field value somewhere on the page. For custom field types with limed choice like "multiselect", "select", "radio" values are usually numbers, that are stored in db and what you enter as option name is label or text with "+" before it.

I support we'll get rid of that old style translator popup for custom fields some day, since all other translatable fields around the system don't use it anymore.

Here is the task for 1st discussion part: http://tracker.in-portal.org/view.php?id=654
