1.   Job opportunities at Royal Film Commission: Filmmakers Support Program Supervisor
Position Description
 
To support filmmakers in identifying programmes, which will develop their skills and talents; to arrange for activities and create an environment promoting filmmaking.
 
Reporting to: Capacity Building Department Manager
 
·         Plan and implement programs that support filmmakers at different levels, to practice and develop their projects.
·         Follow-up and track filmmakers’ achievements and development.
·         Provide filmmakers with advice regarding filmmaking opportunity.
·         Create a filmmakers community within the Film House through various activities.
·         Support, guide and direct filmmakers on available opportunities that could develop their skills and projects, in terms of funds, training, on job training, festivals, etc. 
·         Liaise with regional and local institutions or individuals that can be partners and part of the activities and events in Jordan.
·         To coordinate and cooperate with all other departments/programmes at RFC.
·         Supervise interns and trainers responsible for providing assistance/services in programmes/projects managed by the incumbent.
Qualifications:
  • University graduate in Business administration, or any field related to filmmaking
  • Experience in filmmaking and film industry is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills locally and internationally  
  • Ability to manage and support groups and events
  • Excellent command in Arabic and English
  • Excellent computer literacy
Excellent communication and organization skills

2.   Call for applications: Rawi Screenwriters’ Lab

The Royal Film Commission - Jordan, in consultation with the Sundance Institute, welcomes applications to the eighth round of Rawi Screenwriters’ Lab. The Lab will take place November 14th-18th, 2012 and will be held in Wadi Feynan - Jordan.
 
Rawi Screenwriters’ Lab is designed for Arab emerging and independent screenwriters working on their first or second narrative feature screenplay. It offers them the opportunity to develop their screenplays under the guidance of veteran screenwriters (Creative Advisors), who will have one-on-one intensive story sessions and conversations with the participants about their projects, to embrace their vision and help them find the most compelling way to tell their stories.

  1. Call for Submissions: From Script to Screen
The Royal Film Commission of Jordan (RFC) is pleased to invite local screenwriters to submit their low-budget feature narrative projects for inclusion in the Feature Film Educational Program. The program gives local screenwriters the opportunity to work with talented local technicians and students on producing the project within the framework of a training program under the supervision of professional specialists
Eligibility:
·         The program is open for Jordanian screenwriters regardless of their country of residence.
·         We accept scripts in English that will be later translated to Arabic.
·         Applicants may submit more than one screenplay for a feature narrative.
The film’s genre should fall under one of the following categories:
•   Comedy
•   Children/Family
•   Romantic Comedy
•   Horror
•   Thriller
How to Apply:
Please send the following documents by e-mail to: prog...@film.jo no later than 13 June 2012 and type Feature Narrative Screenplay under Subject:
·         A covering letter introducing yourself and your project.
·         The complete feature narrative screenplay, including a title page, name of the writer, the project registration (deposit) number, name of the director and/or producer if available.
·         Logline describing your project in one sentence only.
·         Synopsis of the project in one page only. 
·         The film budget (Max. JOD 70,000).
·         The director’s vision and creative approach to implementing the project.
·         A biography of the screenwriter and/or the director and/or producer, if available.
·         Copies of any previous work (shorts, TV commercials, etc.), if available.
·         Preliminary schedule.
·         Marketing and distribution plan.

4.   Call for submissions: the Amal International Euro-Arab Film Festival

The Amal International Euro-Arab Film Festival Amal 2012 will be held from 24 to 29 October 2012 in Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Amal is the only Festival in Spain that promotes activities related to Arab culture with the objective of serving as a meeting point for dialogue between cultures.  In its last edition, in 2011, more than 5.000 people have seen films at the Festival.
Rules and Regulations:
·         The festival accepts: Feature-length and Short films (Fiction or Documentary), produced in an Arab country or co-produced with other countries.
·         Films produced in any part of the world that deal with issues related to the Arab world may also be presented. Children’s films as well as experimental productions are also admitted. 
·         All work presented should have been produced between the years 2010 and 2012.
·         Entrants must complete the registration form and send it along with 2 stills of the film, CV of the director, copy of script and summary translated into English, French or Spanish for subtitling to the mailing address below.     
·         A participant may send more than one film.
·         Once the film has been chosen to participate in the Festival, it must arrive in its final format before August 1st 2012.

The deadline for submissions is 1 June, 2012.

  1. Call for submissions: Arab Film Festival Berlin
The Arab Film Festival Berlin (ALFILM) will take place November 5-11, 2012 and is calling for entries for its fourth edition. The main programme will be presenting a panorama of contemporary Arab film production including feature and documentary films, as well as short films, experimental films and video art. The FOCUS section titled: "Generation Transit, Youth Culture and Political Change", consists of current and historic films as well as talks and discussions. This year’s RETROSPECTIVE is devoted to the Moroccan director Farida Benlyazid.
Rules and Regulations:
·         The festival accepts Narrative and Documentary Features, as well as Short which were directed by an Arab filmmaker, and produced or co-produced in an Arab country or handle an issue that relates to the Arab world.
·         Submitted films may not be older than 3 years, except for submissions for the FOCUS section.
·         Entrants must send (2) copies preview DVD of the submitted film, an entry form filled out in German, English, or French; a CD with film stills and one photo of the director to the festival mailing address below.
·         Films must be completed no earlier than January 1st of the third year preceding the year in which the festival takes place. This does not apply for the FOCUS section.
·         Film not in English or German must be subtitled either in German or English.
·          The festival screens only films available on 35mm, Digital Betacam SP, Betacam SP, Blu-Ray or DVD.

The deadline for submissions is 31 May 2012.

  1. Call for entries: Documentary Campus- MENA Programme
The Documentary Campus: Middle East and North Africa Programme is calling for entries for its 2012 cycle. The programme invites filmmakers to a 2-part documentary training, to develop their documentary projects for the international non-fiction market. The programme targets documentary professionals (authors, directors, producers), who have experience in their domestic market but strive to work in the international field and are open to learn and to adapt their projects to the needs of the international market.
Rules and regulations:
  • The programme accepts entries from documentary filmmakers who are residents of Egypt, Tunisia (special priority for these two countries), Morocco, Libya, Algeria, Jordan, the Palestinian territories, Syria, Lebanon.
  • The two workshops will help filmmakers develop their stories for the international market including sessions on storytelling, budgeting, legal aspects of international co-productions, trailers, project presentation and a small pitching session.
  • The 1st Workshop will take place from 30 June - 5 July 2012 in Cairo
    and the 2nd Workshop will  be held from 8-13 October 2012 in Tunis
  • The language of the workshops is English.
  • The accepted filmmakers in the programme will be granted: Tuition fees, travel expenses (from place of residence to Cairo or Tunis resp.), accommodation, and subsistence allowances for the workshop days (team members will have to cover their own expenses).

  1. Call for entries: Guru Production Film Competition
Guru Production is calling for entries for its film competition. Guru accepts filmmakers’ synopsis for their short films or short documentary ideas. The chosen topics will be produced under the concentrated guidance of media industry insiders. The aim is to help filmmakers make quality work to make it in the rounds at international film festivals and other televised outlets. Guru is a Distribution/Production Company that serves as a bridge between international markets and indie filmmakers within the Middle East and Central-South Asia. Winners shall receive up to $3,000.
Rules and Regulations:
  • Filmmakers are to submit the synopsis (1-5 pages) of their films in: English, Arabic, Farsi, and Urdu (Preferable in English)
  • The jury will develop the top 3 projects into short documentary or short film format.
  • Only one synopsis per filmmaker can be submitted
  • Filmmakers must female and be resident of the Middle East, Afghanistan, Iran or Pakistan
  • The story has to be original
  • The writer must be 18+
  • No dialogue is preferable, but if necessary up to 5 lines only

8.   Funding opportunity: Women in Film Foundation

The Women in Film Foundation is calling for applications for its annual Film Finishing Fund. The foundation will grant up to $15,000 to films by, for and about women to cover post services such as online editing, sound mixing, color correction and closed captioning. The Women in Film Foundation's Film Finishing Fund (FFF) annually provides cash and in-kind production services to deserving filmmakers needing help to complete their film projects. The only program of its kind in the industry, the projects submitted have a broad range of subject matter and are judged by a committee of top industry professionals.

Rules and Regulations:

·         The programme funds both Feature-Lengths and Shorts (Narratives, Documentaries, Educational, Animated and Experimental from various countries around the world.

·         The Grant will be used solely for the completion of the film.

·         The film is in post production if a Documentary and 90% complete if a Narrative and the rough cut should include placeholders for any missing scenes/footage.

·         For other genres including: only filmmakers who have completed principal photography and can submit a complete rough cut of the edited film are eligible to apply. No exceptions will be made - we will not review selected footage, partial assemblies, trailers, marketing reels, etc.

·         Projects of any length are accepted.

·         Submitted films cannot be fully completed (to final video master or answer print) and must be in a state of post production that allows for the filmmaker to comply with our credit requirements.

·         At the time the grant is awarded, the Film must not at any point have been in distribution.

·         The programme accepts applications from filmmakers worldwide; however, submitted materials must be accessible to English-speaking audiences or, at a minimum, have English subtitles. All submitted DVDs must be viewable in NTSC/Region 1 or Region 0 (all regions) format.

·         To apply for the fund please complete the application and send it along with (4) NTSC DVDs of your Rough Cut and an original, printed and signed copy of the Producer Warranty to the mailing address below.

9.   Call for submissions: Tehran International Video Film Festival

The Tehran International Video Film Festival is calling for entries for its first edition which will be held from 17-22 June, 2012. The goal of the festival is to encourage cultural diversity and understanding as well as provide the opportunity of comparing the quality of the produced Iranian video films with the ones produced in the other countries. 
Rules and Regulations:
 
  • The narrative video films/tele-films produced in all video formats (HD, Video, DVCAM.
  • Films produced in 35mm or converted to 35mm are not accepted. 
  • Animations and Documentaries are not accepted.
  • Entries must be at least 70 minutes, produced no later than January 2009.
  • Entries must be an Iranian premiere.
  • All producers or organizations can register any number of films.
  • The entry form along with a preview DVD of the film must be sent to the festival mailing address.
  • Entries must be submitted on DVD (PAL format) with a label indicating the title and running time. 
  • The directors of the selected titles will be invited to the festival for presentation of their films.

  1. Call for submissions: International Cinematographers Film Festival in Ostrava
The International Cinematographers Film Festival OSTRAVA KAMERA OKO is calling for film submissions. The 4th edition of the festival will take place from 23rd to 27th September 2012 in Ostrava, Czech republic. This festival is the only event in the Czech Republic focusing on the Art of Cinematography and the role of the Director of Photography.
Rules and Regulations:
·         The festival accepts Short and Feature-length films in any genre.
·         Due to the festivals focus on cinematography, only feature, documentary or experimental films will be selected for the official program. During the pre-selection process we put the emphasis on the visual qualities of the film, on the work of cinematographer.
·         Only films produced after January 1, 2011 can be included in the official competition sections. Work-in-progress versions of registered films are also welcome on the proviso that once selected.
·         Films can be registered through the festival entry form at: entry.filmfestivalostrava.com. The printed confirmation e-mail should be send altogether with the DVD screener (with English subtitles) and with any other attachments to the festival address below.
The deadline for submission is June 20, 2012.
