11 am to 7 pm (Sunday 2 to 7 pm) – 'PIXOGRAPHIX ART' an exhibition &
sale of Limited Edition prints by Khushroo Kalyanwala
As a fairly serious collector of art, and with the Art realm booming in
India, it pained me to see a plethora of art ava
ilable by known and
unknown artists, with a recent trend of works continuously being titled
as "Untitled" – especially non figurative abstract works. It can be
endlessly debated whether today's non figurative Abstract Art is just a
composition of varied colours and forms, composed through various
mediums OR is it the culmination of an expression of a deeper meaning
and understanding of the artist. We will never know, because we don't
ask and artists don't like being asked. My take on this would be, it
may be a great visual, but it may not have a specific meaning. You make
your own meaning or appreciate it for what it is. In fact if you rem
ove
the signature which is the only orienting symbol you may be surprised
that viewing it upside down or sideways may actually be more meaningful
to you. Abstract Art is very much like Jazz Music. At times you may or
may not understand the music, but the musicians who compose it & play
it certainly do. And I haven't seen a Jazz Album called "Untitled" with
the numbers within called "Untitled" too.
"Art is not the truth, but a lie to help us detect the truth". 'Pablo
Picasso' and the French Literary critic 'Roland Barthes' commented that
"….. photography was always being tormented by the ghost 20of painting".
………. And therefore it brings me to my art form where I have combined
both – the technique & effect which is Seen thro' a lens as the
'Truth'; Represented
thro' a medium as a 'Lie' – "The Abstract Haze of Reality".
Increasingly 'Art' is not only the end product; but the
conceptualizing, the execution, and the presentation as a whole. In
this exhibition, photography is only the initial medium which captures
the essence of what the final product could be. The subject matter is
its colour, texture & composition as seen through the eyes of an
A
rchitect-Designer. The pre-conceived composition of the image, the
visually rendered effects, and the unconventional print medium, all
lend themselves to abstracting the subject and abstracting the concept
of photography itself, where it is only one of the mediums used to
express the final "Mixed Media" like images.
All the work will be limited editions restricted to 5 prints of each
image and broadly categorized into a) Landscape & Nature b)
Architectural c) Inanimate objects.
