We had a day of fun and celebration at Press Club today. Thanks to
Vimal and SPACE for organizing the program beautifully. I missed the
first session but was present for the rest of the sessions. There were
a reasonably big audience for the programs. There were also quite a
few press reporters who turned up for the program. It was interesting
to see the journalists of tomorrow, from the school of journalism,
showig keen interest in Free Software. There were also quite a few
members of the group who turned up for the program.
The program also opened up a couple of new opportunities for our
group. During the day we received invitations to hold programs in
Asian School of Business at Technopark and at Christ Nagar School. One
of the directors of ASB visited us and was impressed by the solidarity
of the community and the philosophy and the economics behind Free
Software. We also received a request to hold an install fest and the
display of our Freedom Toaster at Christ Nagar School during the
Science Exhibition that is going to be held in November. The
exhibition will be attended by students for lot of schools in
Trivandrum and should be a good opportunity for us to showcase
GNU/Linux.
Additionally quite a few students from the engineering colleges also
turned up. We were happy to see S3 and S5 students from CET and UCK -
two colleges where did not have a good presence till now. They were
very eager to promote free software at their institutions and I hope
they will continue on with their enthusiasm and bring more students
from their colleges. Around 75 people also signed up to become part of
our group during the day.
I have reported only on the reach and the new contacts and the
opportunities for ilug-tvm. I hope somebody will post more of an
official report about the program. Thomas - take the cue and do this
:-)
Cheers
Anoop
