Hello,

My company work in Embedded and VLSI field and we are trying to migrate from windows to GNU/Linux platform. Can you tell me what compiler can be used instead of MPLAB for PIC microcontrollers. I also want to know if there is any graphical simulation tool for VHDL and Verilog.

Thanks and regards

Hi
There are some tools  for pic.
  Look at a)  SDCC compiler
               b) JAL
               c)  GPutils and GPSIM

But I think none of them are as flexible as MPLAB.
I have installed  mplab  and proteus with  wine. They work perfectly for me.
May be you can give a try.

Hi Sreejith
As Ranjith sir said, Fedora Electronics Lab is the way to go. The
following is how the pieces will look like inside FEL

OS : Fedora 8
VHDL simulator : GHDL
Verilog simulator : Icarus Verilog
Waveform display (for both) : Gtkwave

Verilog synthesis : Icarus Verilog (for Xilinx target)
Verilog/VHDL synthesis : Xilinx ISE Webpack (for Xilinx target)

I have used all the above and they are well supported by the
community. There is also no limitation in doing large designs. Xilinx
tools will be supported by the company itself and also by an active
user community.

Regards
David
