I got my ILO256 in July 2005 and it's still working!! The left channel went dead 6 months ago. But I searched for some Tutorial, openned the ILO and put in some piece of paper to fix the contacts and it worked. I'm using 2500mah NI-MH batteries with it and it works fine despite what is said in some posts in this group. I'm very happy with it, it's still a very cool player.
So... Anyone here wants to share some experience??
Hate to say it, but I think we've all moved on to bigger and better players. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic player, it does what it's supposed to do, but eventually you need more than it has to offer.
I myself bought an Insignia NS-DV4G, and love it. But I still use my ilo256 when exercising, or working, or doing anything else that might put my Insignia in danger...

I moved to a MPIO FY500, then a iPod Nano 2GB player. The iLo was a great player, but 256MB and SD card just wasn't enough storage for me. The ease of podcast support and syncing with an iPod is pretty awesome too.

-- Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious--the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. (Phil 4:8)

After 2 Ilos I bought a Sansa and have been happy with that, although The sound quality of the Ilos are a lot better than the Sansa. One My first ILO had the left channel bug which I also fixed with the piece of paper tutorial. The second Ilo, an orange 1G broke from daily use, being put in my book bag, etc. It was not very sturdy and I lost one of the volume controls because of it. The program in it became very buggy and would not hold music anymore.
