to IBET - Illinois Birders Exchanging Thoughts
Hello Bird People,
Guess I should have gone for the Barn Owl at McCormick place
(especially since it was seen again) but as I'm not working too hard
on my year list & I've had Barn Owls there before I decided to stay
with shorebirds as this is prime time for them. And with the high
temps I wanted to finish up early today. Just stayed local at the 2
Technys.
Techny Basin (7:25-9:30 a.m.) (Covered the whole place today including
the stream to Willow Rd)
D.C. Cormorant (1 fly-by)
Great Blue Heron 6)
Great Egret (7)
Canada Goose (3 in the stream & 10 flying by)
Mallard (27)
Killdeer (9)
Solitary Sandpiper (6 by the backwater & 3 along the stream)
Spotted Sandpiper (2)
Least Sandpiper (22)
Semipalmated Sandpiper (9)
Pectoral Sandpiper (4)
SHORT BILLED DOWITCHER (3, continuing)
(there was a big drop off from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. when all of the
small shorebirds had left)
Ring Billed Gull (2)
Pigeon (8) & Mourning Dove (6)
Flicker (2)
Eastern Kingbird (3)
Blue Jay (2)
Barn Swallow (18)
Robin (3), Catbird (H-1), Cedar Waxwing (4) & Starling (1)
Warbling Vireo (2, far apart)
Cardinal (H-2)
Song Sparrow (3)
Red Wings (3), Grackle (1) & Cowbird (1)
House Finch (4)
Goldfinch (10)
House Sparrow (2)
Techny North (9:35-10:35 a.m.)
D.C. Cormorant (2)
Great Blue Heron (3) & Great Egret (2)
Canada Goose (1), Wood Duck (16) & Mallard (10)
Kestrel (1)
Killdeer (11)
Semipalmated Plover (1)
Solitary (1) & Spotted (3) Sandpipers
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER (2, but 1 soon left)
Least (8) & Semipalmated (3) Sandpipers
WILSON'S SNIPE (1)
Ring Billed Gull (the usual adult)
Rock Pigeon (1, all white one)
Didn't make 14 species of shorebirds as I did yesterday but I did find
10 species which is pretty good considering where I went.
Bird-Of-The-Day to the 3 continuing Short Billed Dowitchers &
Runners-Up to the 2 Baird's Sandpipers & the Snipe.
