This is a group for Freethinkers and Secular Humanists at IISc and elsewhere.

Freethought is a philosophical viewpoint that holds that opinions should be formed on the basis of science, logic and reason, and should not be influenced by pseudoscience, logical fallacies, authority, confirmation bias, cognitive bias, conventional wisdom, popular culture, prejudice, sectarianism, tradition, urban legend, and all other dogmas.

And Secular Humanism embraces freethought, with a primary concern for growth with fulfilment and creativity for both the individual and humankind in general along with a constant search for objective truth, with the understanding that new knowledge and experience constantly alter our imperfect perception of it; a concern for this life (as opposed to an afterlife) and a commitment to making it meaningful through better understanding of ourselves, our history, our intellectual and artistic achievements, and the outlooks of those who differ from us.
