Welcome to the first in our series of updates and newsletters letters for
Momentum 09. In this newsletter we have:

   - A Call for Expression of Interest
   - An Introduction to our new Project Manager

Calling for Expressions of Interest

Momentum'09 will bring pace, perspective and prominence to disability arts
and provide the next step towards a viable and global understanding of and
respect for disability arts and culture. It will be a melting pot of
innovation, inspiration, aspiration and the very best in performance and
visual arts by disabled artists and performers from around the world.

The symposium will exist in the physical at AUT University and "virtually"
via the Momentum'09 website.  We will be using technology as much as
possible to broaden the involvement of participants, artists, speakers and
delegates.  Opportunity exists to for involvement in both the physical
symposium in Auckland and or in the virtual symposium online.

The aim is to create a highly participative programme, bringing together
disabled artists and arts workers, representatives from funding bodies and
mainstream arts organisations and venues.  There is a strong commitment to
attracting a representative and culturally diverse delegation, specifically
addressing indigenous or culturally diverse disabled artists and arts
enthusiasts; the inclusion of Deaf arts and Survivors of the mental health
system.  The organisers of Momentum'09 will strive for a 'global village'
feel to the event, where all delegates, performers and participants come
together to celebrate the achievements of disabled people in the arts to
date and build upon the 'momentum' for a thriving and vibrant future.

Introducing our new Project Manager - Janette Searle

Janette started with us in March this year as Project Manager - we'll let
her introduce herself.

"Hi everyone and welcome to what I'm sure will be an amazing event and the
beginning of great things.   I'm excited to be involved in Momentum 09 as
its a fabulous mix of all of the things I'm most passionate about - The
Arts, seeing people given an opportunity to realise their potential,
and the prospect of positive social change.   I have a relatively mixed
background in the Arts.  I spent over 15 years involved in the production of
film and television (virtually all forms and genre) as a production manager
and producer.  Over the last four years I have moved progressively into
event and arts management an area I am very passionate about.   I have for
the past 20 years dabbled as a painter and sculptor with varying degrees of
success.   My involvement in the Disabilty Sector started while still
working in Film and Television and since then it seems that I often find
myself drawn to projects within the sector.  I have been fortunate to meet
and work with some truly inspiring people and Momentum 09 is shaping up to
provide more opportunity for that.  Brilliant! ".
