And the winner is - drum roll please - Nic Bos who suggested trying a new
mouse. I assumed that since the roller wheel still worked to zoom in & out
that that roller wheel click also worked. We all know what happens when we
assume stuff. So - I'm happy a few of you were enlightened by the cool
rollerwheel capabilities and now I'm happy mine is working again. Thanks

Have any of you had this happen or, more importantly, know how to fix it?
I have an HP roller mouse that came with the pc. The roller part works to
zoom in/out in ArcView. I used to be able to pan by clicking on the roller,
but that part doesn't seem to work anymore. Any suggestions?

**--**--**--**--**--**--**--**

[igic] 2010 NAIP opportunity - Dec status

We're still trying to put together a community-wide effort to buy-up NAIP from 3 band RGB color to 4-band RGB and near-infrared. So far a few brave agencies and businesses have consented to donate to the cause but our biggest backer from the 2008 effort is unable to do so this year. So we really need your help - lots of small contributions can do it - $500 to $1000 helps buy imagery worth about $10,000 per county.

[igic] GIS in Iowa Annual Report - news and plans for the coming year

I am putting together an annual report for the Iowa Geospatial Infrastructure, and would like to include any other note worthy achievements from the Iowa GIS community. It doesn't have to relate to anything specific to the IGI - it can just be any geospatial accomplishment you want to bring to the attention of the general world population: for example, a new hire, new orthos or obliques, an RFP and/or new contract, an award for punctuality from your boss. Businesses please limit your response to Iowa related activities. Academics limit yourself to one or two things of wonderfulness. A maximum of a couple of lines, unless its really, really good. Be descriptive enough that we can tell what you're talking about.

Ack! $91,117 not $91 million. Thanks Lawrence.
______________________________ __
Sent: Friday, November 20, 2009 3:46 PM
To: i...@iastate.edu
Hi again folks.
I've been told by USDA/FSA that there is a very strong possibility that Iowa will be flown again in 2010 for NAIP imagery, with all federal money. This will be the standard 1 meter resolution color, leaf-on (summer) imagery. In addition, we will have the opportunity to buy-up to 4-band imagery for the first time. What that means is there will be a fourth band, near-infrared as well as the standard red, green, and blue bands. We've never had the near-IR band for NAIP, so it should help a lot with vegetation discrimination when we do land cover mapping. It also means the product will be all digital instead of the scanned film that we usually get with NAIP for Iowa. So this will be a little sharper as well. The cost for the buy-up to 4-band is $91,117,000 which I think with enough partners should be doable, and not too burdensome for any. We can do it the same way with IGIC collecting the local partner money and DNR collecting the state partner money. We have to have our contract completed by the end of this January, so we will need to line up the partners in December/early January. Money won't need to change hands until Oct/Nov of 2010 when the first products get delivered.

 All:

The busy holiday season is beginning, and it's easy to postpone thoughts about professional development until after Jan. 1.

Don't procrastinate!

Think ahead, as you must, in tough economic times. And think particularly about the highly acclaimed biennial MAGIC GIS Symposium that will be held April 18-22 in Ka. City. Apart from first class workshops, and an abundance of conference sessions, the symposium will offer outstanding keynote presentations. Jack Dangermond, well known ESRI founder, will speak, as will Mike Jones, whose software founded the Google mapping revolution.

Sorry for the Bad English, 2nd paragraph. I need to hear from organizations that may have an interest in the buy-up assistance by next Wednesday, or sooner.
______________________________ __
Sent: Friday, November 20, 2009 9:15 AM
To: i...@iastate.edu; i...@icit.state.ia.us
Folks,
The USGS has some stimulus money to distribute to states for 1 foot color ortho-imagery (leaf off). They want to cover as much territory as they can for inclusion in The National Map. The state of Iowa has a statewide ortho program for 2' 4-band ortho-imagery but this doesn't meet their criteria. However, the state program has a buy-up program for 1' and 6" spring time ortho-imagery. What we'd like to do is apply for some of the USGS stimulus money to help any organizations purchase buy-ups of county or larger areas. DNR will apply for the grant, make agreements with the purchasing organization, and pay them a certain amount from the grant when the 1 ft imagery is delivered. To make this easy for us to administer the grant, I think we will just have a flat amount per county that we will pass back to the purchasing organization. Imagery acquired with this assistance will be delivered to USGS and become public data.
