This position in the System Enhancement section of the Office of Transportation Data has lead responsibility for maintenance and production of the county Highway and Transportation (H & T) base maps, city base maps and for the development of special request maps. The position also has lead responsibility for analyzing city annexation information, ensuring policy and procedures have been followed, and then entering this information into a statewide city corporate limits data file. The position also assists in the maintenance of roadway database information and graphics in the office's Geographic Information Management System (GIMS) and the core datum of the Linear Referencing System through a set of automated procedures. The 99 H & T maps and the 947 city maps are developed in MicroStation and provided to users as paper maps and electronic file formats such as AutoCAD DWG, Adobe PDF, and the native MicroStation DGN. The special request maps use base map information in conjunction with data from GIMS or other map products the office or agency produces. The base maps are updated on an annual basis and are produced using information from the Oracle database of GIMS, information from other Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) offices as well as other state agencies. The maps supply users with a central resource for current cartography used in plans, reports and other products used in the planning, management of assets and appropriation of funds. The person in this position must analyze information from various sources and then process the changes accurately and efficiently into the corresponding application to meet specified deadlines. Effective communication with individuals throughout the DOT and outside entities is essential. Consultation with internal and external customers is needed to insure the information available conforms to their requirements. Due to the technical nature of these processes, the person in this position must be skilled with a variety of software such as MicroStation and GeoMedia, have an understanding of the electronic output formats, and have exposure to supporting applications such as Excel, Word, Photoshop, Illustrator and basic text editor applications. This position requires the ability to quickly adjust to and apply new technologies in the production of cartographic products, investigate and apply automated methods of data display, and quickly adapt to changing work assignments. Travel: Some overtime and travel may be required. Shift: Monday thru Friday; 8:00 - 4:30, with flex time available.
Minimum Qualifications:  Graduation from an accredited college or university.
Salary range: $34,278 - 50,793.  Application Deadline: June 28, 2009.
