Can we create a social network site for developers. We can have java, .net. groovy struts hibernate communities. where ppl can discuss the technologies , trends and problems and lot more. we can invite ppl to join a technology(community). Provide tutorials , right ups, blogs. and suggestions to improve that technology. If successful we can get sponsorship from various companies who support these technologies . We can also list the companies supporting those technologies. We can compare technologies and service providers. We can do a lot more , but to start we can start as a technology social network site. People willing to work or improvise. Please shout.Any suggestions welcomed Regards, Samar

Raj , dont worry . the development would be in grails. but we shall list all the technologies(groups or communities) on the site so that user can join and give their view on the technology. But our code would be strictly GoG.

Hi all,
I had been learning Grails sometime back. But later stopped cause i wasn't actually applying it anywhere. But i am quite a bit familiar with the Architectural style of Grails framework. I dont think i can put in fixed hours per day as i am in my Final year of engineering but would be really interested to work on the project.
So please consider me for the project. But i am a bit concerned regarding the pace of progress of such remotely contributed projects. But with proper requirements and clear view of the application to be designed we should be able to get the application up and running. Also would be required, are the front end developers :)
I am sure it will challenging with the distributed team. But i m sure challenges will be making things more interesting. I am just waiting for the right number of people. With the power we can achieve wonders with small number of people also but having a larger crowd is always better. We would be working on a very managed way and would expect ppl to update there status as frequently as possible. We would divide the work as per the skill set and degree of involvement.
Yes Mohamed , we do need UI developer. Lets start the grails way. We can always upgrade to a more attractive UI in future if our back end code is neatly written, like Grails.org did.
Please influence more people to join this project. remember the core purpose is to spread Grails awareness.

This will now be just a project where complete it and say buy. We are
doing this to create a platform to deveoplers to contribute in blog,
forum etc. We do need people to contribute in articles etc.
Design... There are some free templates i can try to get. If we plan
to incorporate Template.... We may need to use a XML - XSL support...
like all templates are created in XSL and data from DB will be read as
XML. This is too early to talk about this. But just in case.
If we need we can create a account in Google Code to keep the source
code in centralized place. Provided... code will not be misused.

Right.. this would be a developer's heaven. he can get everythin , right from analysis. trends. FAQs guides. post, everything u can think of . But to start with we should limit the scope to a fewer things which would attract attention. We should start the requirement gathering. We should list down all the feature which we would like to have . Then scope then to different releases. We would have the basic framework in .1 release and then add a new feature in each release. TO start . let jot down the features. And remember , the more different the better it is.
And Raj let not think about selling it at this stage. Lets take to a new level . For commercial success we always have better means.
Also I am disappointed that only four have responded so far.

So we have- 1. Communities for each technology. Each community page has got a Forum for discussing areas related to that technology, then there's a place where people can share documents, guides. All in the same community. 2. We can give an option for blogging for the users and let them carefully choose the category for the blog post from the technologies we are covering or mark them as a general tech article. There will be a feeder on each community page that will get all the blog posts in that category or tagged with the particular "Technology". 3. Let each community page have a News feed item which will show the activity on the Community (Think Facebook News feed) 4. Networking among users. 5. Profile management for each user. 6. Quizzes of different level under each technology. The users are tagged with different names like "Begginer", "Pro", "Guru" ( can think of some better names ) as and when they clear the quizzes of different level. (Actually one can have a look at http://www.javablackbelt.org/ for something similar concept). 7. We can have the usual Photo sharing and other cool social networking features.
Each community would try to work to being the best and most active community on the Networking platform. Each community will have moderators, admins, leaders.
I would sat we make a rough study of sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and other famous networking sites to gain some idea on how we can improve than the existing sites.
Thanks,

We are doing this for popularizing the 2G than our learning development.......!
Before we develop such a BIT castle i think
1. Lets limit our thought to 2G. not many technology outside of it. 2. Before we start developer we need to thing who is going to stay for 'Post development phase'. Meaning when we run the site. This is NOT just a learning project. The main moto of this is 'Spread the 2G' 3) Who can do the activity the site is going to provide.
Let me give an idea. In the time of development... Lets run these things using the free tools available on net. like blogspot, free fourms. etc. So the people who joining in the current project will see the risk and time consumption it takes when we create the project.
I dont want as we start this all learn and go and at last they say that 'Sorry guys that was development and now i have my buy life to continue . i cant post article or contribute on this site..'
Please lets all think on this and then we start this development. I dont like to see any 'Eleventh hours shocks' .
I feel we are thinking so big in the beginning, In my personal experience... many projects like this stopped premature state due to infatuation on the technology, and one find day it will be bored.
Lets all think these points into consideration and start the project.

Good MohamedLet document all the requirements. I love excitement because that is what will keep up going. We shall phase out all the features to different releases depending on the need and complexity etc. Lets start with the most basic features initially . like login ,remember password and everything. user profile and stuff. Can you document it good doc and sent it across.
