thetvdb.com appears to be down at the moment — but I only found this
out when I tried to go there in Safari, as iFlicks was just setting
the filename as the show name.

Would it be possible to have a message appear when the search site
can't be reached?

Thanks

This wouldn't be a problem, but I don't want to annoy the users (especially during automated processes) with messages that are not necessarily needed.
Anyways, I'll keep this in mind and think about an elegant way to let the user now that TVDB or TMDB is down. If you have any suggestions, just let me know.

Hmm — a message to the right of where the spinner appears? Admittedly
you'd have to find somewhere else for the "beta expires in n days"
text then :)

A sticky growl notification would suffice.

Good idea — though non-Growl users (are there any?) might object.

(are there any plans to support alternative metadata sources, BTW?)

I can definitely add a growl notification. That would be at least some way users will notice that something might be wrong.

I'll probably add tagchimp support in the future, once tagchimp resolves some of the current issues.
