I was talking to Kalen Gibbons yesterday and he had a great idea for
the cfug's next meeting. His ideas was to basically we bring our
laptops and we CODE!!

We partner up in groups of two and we build a Flex/Air application
powered by ColdFusion. We do a simple contact manager for the CFUG.
Where we can register and view the members of the group. I believe we
can do something really simple in the time alloted and we will learn a
lot.

Anyways, this is a suggestion that Kalen had and wanted to share it
with the group. Kalen can further expand on it.

Love this idea.

At the Phoenix CFUG, every so often we'd have "assignments". Very
small, basic apps. 2-3 pages at most. A couple of volunteers would
build these, then bring them in and show them at the meeting. It was
always fun to compare/contrast how 2 or 3 different people would take
different approaches to building the same product.

Everyone does things just a little differently. It's cool when you
get that "wow... I never thought of that approach, but I like it"
feeling. Sometimes it's not even code related per se, but some sort
of functionality/feature in the IDE.

I know that Kalen's suggestion is a bit different, but I think it will
accomplish the same end result.

thought you looked a bit off."

I have an Adobe AIR Training manual with me... but not sure if it was covered by the NDA during the Community Expert conference. I'll ask, it could be useful..

Kalen won't be able to make it to July's meeting, so our flex guru
won't be there. However, I have some workflow presentations and
materials that Adobe sent me. If you would all like, we can do some of
the RIA workflow demos that they sent. They should take an hour or so
and should be entertaining. I will try to watch them soon and let you
know if it can be something we can use. Any other ideas for our July
meeting? I think a hands on programming session would be great
Soplease give your input.

Also, who is going to CFunited next week?

Let me know if you want me to lean on Brian Kotek instead.

I am for that too, so please write in on what each of you would like to do. I am down for anything, so my vote doesn't count.

I can also hit up John Paul Ashenfelter for talking about Functional Testing with Selenium. Lots of options.

Hi, all.

@Oğuz, absolutely, I hope we see you! (I suspect the drive from
Newport will be a bit of a bear, though...)

Regarding the meeting topic, I like the idea of a hands-on RIA
session, if you think you have some useful subject matter we can cover
in the scope of a meeting, and have enough people on the "mentoring"
side of the equation.

Otherwise, on a purely selfish level, I would vote for Brian Kotek's
mocking and generation topic, as I am planning to attend John Paul
Ashenfelter's session on testing at CFUnited. That said, I certainly
wouldn't mind hearing him again, as his Agile Bootcamp was one of my
favorite talks at cf.Objective().

@Luis, I'm flying in on Tuesday, set to arrive at Dulles at about
6:30. I was hoping to make it to the convention center to register
early, but it closes at 8:00, so that may not be realistic, we'll see.
Let me know if you want to get together -- perhaps we could assemble a
group to do dinner some night? Also, are you leaving on Saturday night
or Sunday morning?

I will be at CFUnited also. I will stay at Hyatt and will be there Tuesday evening.

I have my i18N session at Wednesday 4PM. After that I will be also relaxed and can join any idea.

See you there.

@Ezra
Yes, let's try to meet in the lobby around 8pm.

@Oguz,
Yes, we should do a dinner and go sightseeing. You where local right Oguz? Maybe you can show us the town.

Luis, Oğuz --

8:00 might be a little tight given my flight schedule, but I'll do my
best...

Hi Guys,
we are all back from CFUNITED and what a nice conference. Anyways,
July 11ths is 3 weeks away and we still don't have a plan. I went over
the training I have on flex and it is pretty decent, but it uses Flex
Builder, Fireworks and Photoshop. Most of us don't have all three
requirements, so it might be too much. Anyways, Kalen has some formal
video tutorials for Flex that he will try to get to me, so we can do a
1 hour hands on Flex training.

However, maybe we can just get a speaker, so let's do a quick
roundabout vote on what to do and what speaker. The speaker we where
trying to get was Brian Kotek, to speak on generation and his mock
framework. So let's start a vote.

I vote for Flex Training.

Thanks.

I vote Brian. Lots of Flex stuff online, but what Brian does, crazy!

pursued, IMO :)
