October Meeting -- Beyond Git 101: Practical Tools, Tips and Workflows

Hi folks, it's that time again -- our October meeting will be held
this Thursday, and we've got a great hands-on session lined up:

Beyond Git 101: Practical Tools, Tips and Workflows
by Sami Hoda & Joseph Lamoree

Git is a distributed version control system that is seeing more and
more adoption over centralized systems such as CVS or SVN. If you are
curious about about Git and how to easily implement it, this is the
session for you!

Please be sure to bring a laptop if you'd like to follow along with
the tutorial, but all are welcome regardless. Due to the participatory
nature of this class, we will not be broadcasting the session via
Connect.

The meeting will be held at the regular time and place, please see our

Also, as per usual, we will need to submit a list of names to the
University for parking exemptions, so please reply to this thread if
you think you may be able to make it.

Hi folks, I'm afraid I've already sent off the parking exemption
request, but I really don't want paying for parking to be a barrier
that prevents anyone from attending, so Jonathan, Noella and Kari, if
you have to pay for a permit, just find me at the meeting and I'll
reimburse you.

If you would like to participate in some interactive portions of the
Git presentation, come to the meeting with a GitHub account. Creating
an account is simple and free: https://github.com/signup/free
After creating an account at GitHub, you will need to associate it
with a SSH key. For operating system specific instructions, follow
this link: http://help.github.com/key-setup-redirect

If you don't already have Git installed, you'll need (at a minimum)
the Git binaries: http://git-scm.com/download

While you will be able to participate fully using only the command
line, you may prefer a polished graphical Git client. We'll be using
SmartGit: http://www.syntevo.com/smartgit/download.html

I am in West LA and do you have any guess about apprx. arriving time to there on the evening jam? Google Maps says 51 min. 

And 10 or 60, which one is more clear starting from downtown LA?
