Recycling charges a joke!

down to the local recycling centre today in Sligo and all in all it cost her
12.00 Euro to dispose of the stuff. I thought it was going to maybe just
cost 2.00 Euro a car. She had an old satellite dish, an old towbar, old
coffee maker some bits of metal and nothing hazardous waste.
She was saying that in the way it was organised she could not offload it in
one go down there. Some bits had to go in one place, some had to go in
another place, she was freezing (because it was frosty) she got shitted up
with all the mess down there the fellas who worked there just stood around
looking at her whilst she was struggling to get the satellite dish and the
towbar out the car and never even offered to help. She was trying to put
newspapers and magazines into a big container but it was so full up she
couldn't get them in, they kept falling out again! - She came back right
pissed off with the whole experience and had to pay 12.00 euro on top for
the privilege.
I will never condone people fly tipping or leaving waste illegally but come
on when they make it hard like this to recycle and also charge 12.00 Euro
for a few items and people are already paying a compulsory PRF charge on
everything but I am beginning to see why people are so reluctant to dispose
of their stuff in the proper way.
It should be just a matter of pull up to the recycling centre and pay around
2.00 Euro for a car load of stuff (or even better Free and funded by the
local council or government or something) and be able to off load your stuff
in one pile and go and let the workers down their organise into its correct
piles. Make it a bit easier and cheaper like this and then maybe the people
would be reluctant to just tip their rubbish anywhere. I can understand an
extra charge for hazardous waste or car batteries or oil or something like
that but she never had any hazardous waste.
In future it will be cheaper and less hassle not to empty out any sheds or
chuck out anything and keep everything. I suppose its a good excuse now next
time my wife says we must have a clear out of that room and chuck some stuff
out!

There's a place in Tobercurry that's cheaper than Sligo. AFAIK the
only place in Sligo is down by the docks near the NCF but it's dearer
than Tober.
Last time I used Tober it cost either €3/5 and I had a big van load
of stuff. This was about 6 months ago.

Yes, it was this one down by the docks run by greenstar
(http://www.greenstar.ie/) . I think she will be going to Tubbercurry
recycling centre in future - they are doing Roadworks up in tubber at the mo
that's why she tried the docks.
Yes I heard about the water charges. I am out in the sticks so I don't know
whether it will apply to us but I suppose it will affect us as well. I think
they say every house will be charged. The wife said she don't mind paying
for it as long as its stable and don't keep going off! - for the last year
or so its been disrupted so many times in our area and its been a bleeding
pain when it goes off for hours on end so they want to get that sorted
before they start charging for it.
As a local man said once years ago on a radio phone in when they used to
charge for it in Sligo 'sure what would I want to pay water charges for? -
der water falls out of the sky doesn't it sure!'

That's your problem then...that's run by a company on a for-profit
basis. Civic amenity sites (like the one in Tubber) are run by the
council at minimal cost to the user.

Lucky you. In Cork City you would have paid ?20 for same.
