ask: tidak bisa membuka synaptic package manager

dear all,
apakah ada yg tau solusinya? pusing nih...
saya tidak bisa membuka lagi synaptic package manager maupun software sources di ubuntu 8.04 saya.
seingat saya sehabis mencoba mau install package fakeroot 1.9 hasil ekstrak dari format tar.gz.
hasil dari paman google dari sebuah forum katanya suruh update pake #apt-get update.
menggunakan internet dial up, akhirnya saya melakukan update.
tapi habis itu saya coba buka lagi synaptic-nya masih belum bisa, begitu juga dengan s/w sources.
ada yang punya advice?

Coba edit dengan :
$ sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.lists sources.lists.bak

$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.lists

Kasih comment (#) yang anehnya, atau kasih comment semua aka hapus dulu
aja isinya,ntar klo dah bisa jalan synaptic-nya, kasih centang dan
tambahkan lagi aja alamat repo yang dikehendaki.

Biasanya ada yang salah pada penentuan Components-nya (kosaong).

Kalau saya begitu... yang kadang suka dialami...

saya sudah coba jalankan:
cp /etc/apt/sources.list sources.list.bak
masih belum bisa dibuka nih Pak tejtjep.
kemudian opsi kedua saya coba menghapus semua isi di dalam file sources.list dan jalankan synapticnya (GUI) masih belum bisa juga.
oya, tapi saya jalankan dari terminal bisa dgn command: synaptic
kalo software sources dijalankan dari terminal command-nya apa ya?
karena software sources saya juga tidak bisa dibuka lewat GUI.

Untuk menjalankan software source dari terminal :

$ gksu software-properties-gtk

ok thanks pak, bisa dibuka dgn command tersebut.
musti su ke root ya? karena pada saat saya jalankan command tsb di
user biasa tidak terjadi apa2.
kemudian pada terminal ada kata2 begini:

/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/apt/__init__.py:18: FutureWarning:

apa aritnya ya?

kalo boleh saya bertanya lagi:
setelah saya coba menghapus isi file /etc/apt/sources.list, kok saya
buka synaptic terus coba search, misalnya php kok jadi tidak bisa
ditemukan?
padahal sebelumnya bisa.
kemudian saya coba mengembalikan isi file tsb seperti semula dan saya
coba dari synaptic utk search php kok masih tidak bisa juga ya?
isi file /etc/apt/sources.list saya adalah sbb.:

Kalau bapa bisa konek ke internet, coba jalankan dulu seperti ini :

sudo apt-get install python2.5

Mudah-mudahan bisa teratasi....
