Saat ini saya sedang mencoba setting slackware sebagai router, masih dalam proses.
Yang jadi pertanyaan adalah :
- Untuk spek pc PII-PIII (Ram; 128-256Mb), versi berapa yang handal ?
- Rencananya mau tambah webmin, rp-pppoe, dll. Ada yang bisa ngasih saran tambah apa biar lebih kaya linux-box (ex; Smoothwall).
- Package apa saja yang perlu disertakan dari cd default Slackware ?, biar lebih ramping.
- Nah.. kalo di-combine dengan modem ‘adsl speedy’, lebih bagus pake model bridge atau pppoe (setting modem adsl-nya) ?
Sampai itu dulu pertanyaannya, nanti yang lain nyusul, soalnya masih progress.

Kalo Anda tidak pake X Window, kayaknya slackware 12.1 pun masih bisa

Paket2 dari CD Slackware sebetulnya sudah lebih dari cukup untuk membuat router

Menurutku kalo dipake online terus, enak yg PPPoE, soalnya gak perlu
dial dulu, cukup nyalain modemnya langsung jalan

sekedar nambahin, agar makin yakin menggunakan slackware untuk router :)
saya pakai 3 pc (merek dell) intel p3 RAM 256M.
(komputer bekas, beli di harco mangga dua)
masing2 pc pakai 3 card ethernet.
digunakan sebagai router untuk menghubungkan 6 subnet.
pakai slackware 10.1.
belum pernah reboot, sudah berjalan hampir 1 tahun.

Kalo 'hasil imajiner' aku;
@ nantinya dari pc lain bisa remote melalui port 1000-nya webmin,
@ karena online-offline akan terlalu sering nantinya, dial diatur dari pc di
bawah router untuk remote IP modem di atas router.
Kalau seperti itu, apa memang cenderung PPPoE ya..?
Trus IP up router; static or DHCP ?
