I am happy to write letters of recommendation, but here's how you do it:
(1) Open a credential file with CDSE. For more info, see:
<http://cdse.hawaii.edu/s_resources.php>
(2) Print out and fill out the credential file authorization form. Don't
send me a link as BJ did above, because you have to indicate on the form
whether or not you want the recommendation letter to be confidential or
open, and sign it. While it is up to you, I strongly suggest that you
declare all your recommendation letters to be confidential (i.e. you won't
be provided access to them). Doing this makes the letters much more
meaningful and useful to employers. If you are worried that someone might
write you a bad recommendation, simply ask them if they would be willing
to write you a positive letter of recommendation before giving them the
form. It is extremely unlikely (as well as unethical) for a professor to
say they would write you a positive letter and then write a negative one.
In my case, if I don't feel I can write a positive letter for a student, I
simply tell the student that I would prefer that they find someone else to
write the letter.
(3) Put the filled out, signed credential file authorization form in my
mailbox in POST 302. Send me an email indicating you've done so, along
with a link to your online resume and online portfolio. I will use those
in writing the letter.
Thanks,
Philip
