Subject: [icat-organizing] Demonstration against Torture: Cheney in town

On Monday September 19th, former Vice President Dick Cheney will be visiting Chicago to promote his new book.  The event will be taking place at the Union Leaque Club, 65 W. Jackson Blvd (see information below)

We will  hold signs and banners that connect Cheney with the issue of U.S sponsored torture. We are hoping to hold signs that say "Torture and Cheney are wrong" and "Torture is Always Wrong."

Cheney is a long-time advocate for the use of torture or "enhanced interrogation techniques" and condoned the use of torture to hundreds of men who were never convicted of any crime.  "Former Vice President Dick Cheney says he has 'no regrets' about the harsh interrogation policies the Bush administration pursued in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. ... Asked in an NBC interview if he still embraces waterboarding, Cheney says, 'I would strongly support using it again if circumstances arose where we had a high-value detainee and that was the only way we could get him to talk.'"
