Can't map security roles

Working in RAD 7.5.3 i have a portlet project and associated EAR.
I have added a security role to the web deployment descriptor.
I have deployed the EAR to a local portal v6 server.
I need to map the security role to actual users/groups.
According to the documentation i can go to the admin console, select my EAR and i should have an option to 'Map security roles to users/groups' under 'Additional Properties'.

However, i do not have that option! Does anybody know why?
Global security is on.
