pass param from input in theme to a portlet

Hi,
i've been looking for a simple/clean solution to do that and couldnt find anything ...
I have a portlet in an Iframe (dont ask why) that will eventualy display a search results ..but i need to send a parameter first. that parameter is entered in the theme (input field) ..
Does anyone have an idea how i can do that ?
