When using TDI 7.0 (Fix Pack 7) and running an Assembly Line in the CE
works, but when I connect to a VPN the Default Server stops running.
If I click the Start button, it will not run and shows the following
messages in the console:

Thu Jan 26 13:25:02 EST 2012 CTGDIC076I Local development server
launched ...
Thu Jan 26 13:25:10 EST 2012 javax.jms.JMSException: Cannot start a
queue manager for JMS
. . .

Thu Jan 26 14:53:29 EST 2012 CTGDIS210W An error has occurred on
Server API initialization: {0}.
Thu Jan 26 14:53:29 EST 2012 CTGDKD019E Could not create RMI
Registry:: Port already in use: 1099; nested exception is:
Thu Jan 26 14:53:29 EST 2012 java.net.BindException: Address already
in use: NET_Bind
Thu Jan 26 14:53:29 EST 2012 CTGDIC077I Process exit code: '0'.

Any ideas why a local development server wouldn't run when connected
to the VPN? If I disconnect from the VPN, it does work fine. (and
also, on another computer it does run even when connected to that same
VPN, but CE has other issues).

More Info: Since the error says "Port already in use: 1099", I used
Microsoft's TCPView utility to see what is using that port, and it
shows that C:\Program Files\IBM\TDI\V7.0\jvm\jre\bin\java.exe is
listening on 1099.

Any ideas?

I presume there is another instance of TDI server running.
Please check whether your CE is still open with an active server in
another session, before logging in to VPN, and stop the server or exit
the CE

It sounds like the CE has lost contact with the TDI Server, not that
it has stopped. That is why you get the error when you try to restart
it: Port already in use 1099.

So, try to stop the server BEFORE you set up the VPN connection and
then restart it. Or open the VPN before you start TDI. If the VPN
'messes around' with your ip stack, then the 7.0 CE can lose it's
connection to the server (your ip has changed, and therefore that to
the server). This is improved in 7.1 - but that is not much comfort to
your 7.0 needs :/

Andrija and Eddie, Thanks for the ideas. The problem definitely is
that the CE loses contact with the TDI Server. Unfortunately, I have
tried both scenarios of starting the VPN before starting CE /TDI
Server or starting CE/TDI Server before the VPN.

Inexplicably, it works fine on a different machine using the same VPN.
So, for now, that is my solution to use it on the computer where it
works.

I've had this same problem. I think I've solved it by closing down
the CE, going into the Task Manager (Windows) and killing any running
java processes. When I restart the CE, everything runs fine. I run
TDI on my laptop, and the same thing happens when I un-dock and
wireless or re-dock after having been on our wireless network.
