I had the same problem and this is the response I got from IBM
support: (Note, I was using Redhat Linux 5.4 x64)

From this output it appears that you have installed the 32 bit ITDS on
the 64 bit platform, which is not supported for ITDS. This
installation will need to be removed and the correct packages will
need to be installed for this platform. For the 64 bit platforms you
need to download the following e-Assembly package form Passport
Advantage:

CR5K4ML: IBM Tivoli Directory Server 6.1 for Linux AMD64/EM64T

Further details on the package are contained in the technote:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=767&uid=swg24015908

The method for uninstalling ITDS is detailed in the following section
of our ITDS installation and configuration guide:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v2r1/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.IBMDS.doc_6.1/install18.htm

Hope this helps!
