I am not a member of i3detroit (yet). I have (3) friends that are members, Terry Wynn, Robert Doer & John Anderson. Terry brought me to i3 last Friday night, I was impressed. I have never heard of "makers space" before. But my whole life (since the mid 70's) has been tinkering and inventing things. I guess I have been a "maker space" before Makers Space was in fashion. LOL!
I was a tool & die/mold maker for over 22 years, had owned a company, doing the same, for 6 of the 22 years. I know (at an expert level): sawing, milling, drilling, boring, threading, lathe, surface grinding, drill press, MIG, oxy/acet weld, brazing, weldments and many other machinist skills (I do NOT know CNC). I have 15 years of experience with SolidWorks 3d CAD. I have built two BattleBots, one combat robot and one F.I.R.S.T. bot. I do machine design at work.
I would consider teaching a class on any of the above and although I am a "radio Shack junkie" I don't know how to design a circuit. I would need someone to help me with a simple electronic circuit for a project of mine. I also would like to learn ceramics, glass fusing and laser cutting.
I would consider being a member if we traded knowledge. I would like to learn/teach.
My Tuesday's and maybe Thursdays evenings are open on my busy schedule.
Please advise... please reply if you would like to attend a class, I need to know if there is any interest....
