Hey all,
With Halloween coming up, several of us are wanting to do full head casts(aka life cast, 3d make up, or prosthetic make up) to do 3d make up in latex. Several of us have wanted to do this for awhile but haven't had the space for it. so I3 makes a perfect location for the messy process. Myself and Angela have both done it before, but just face casts, not full head casts. We are planning on holding a session on sat the 2nd of oct at noon. I don't see anything on the calendar for the space for that day. if you want to come and learn how to make molds of body parts come join us. if you want something cast, i'm ordering supplies right now. They aren't cheap, so i need a pretty good count of how many ppl will want to have a cast done. it's looking like it will be roughly $20 per person. I need to know soon so i can get them ordered in time. If it turns in to a lot of ppl, i might have to ask for money in advance. This is just for the casting, if we have time we might get into the modeling but scuplting takes awhile. Thanks!

Also, I need to know how to add this to the calendar. I've been given some basic information but not enough to figure it out. Thanks!

I'd be glad to handle the details for ya (eventbrite creation, calendar,
etc) if you'd rather not mess with getting the login details at this
moment.

This is fantastic.
If you would like I can ask my friend Larry Larson to pitch in.
He was the head effects animator for Evil Dead II and worked on many
commercial projects around town and with me. Let me know.

I have some notes I've taken on casting for some theatre classes, but I haven't tried it yet. If anyone wants tips/techniques on how to do other makeup I'd be more than happy to help. I'm speaking more of non-prosthetic, or very small prosthetic makeup. I have some makeup that I could share and I could give tips on what to buy. So if anyone has any ideas for costume makeup they would like to try out and are not sure about the execution, I'd be more than happy to help out.
Not sure I would be available that early on a Saturday, but I could probably do 6pm.
Let me know if there is any interest or if anyone has any basic questions.

this sounds like it would make an AWESOME post for people to read about. maybe we can collaborate after and you can make sure i get down some basic howto steps.  we could also get nate_lapt to bring his camera and we could film the steps too.

Dude. Did you really have to ask whether people would like to have the
head effects animator for Evil Dead II come out and give pointers?

DUH!

Hey all,
I was sent down to South Carolina for the week. I had planned to pick up the supplies my self during the week, but i won't be in until very late friday night. The location i'm getting the supplies from is in shelby twp. Is any one willing to go pick up the stuff thrusday or friday? I can set it up to pick it up early saturday morning, but i'd rather not after comming in late. I have already paid, it just needs to be pick up. it's several large and heavy bags, so needs to be a least a medium sized vehicle. let me know. thanks.

Had some good interest from this & i3 at TEDx.  Do we have supplies to put a post on the web about this?  Or is it limited to how much supplies were ordered?

i'm SURE we can record bits of the class and post it on youtube. either way, i'll be sure to do a full writeup on the class, doubly so if bill works with me on the post.

Should have clarified.  Interest in people taking the class.

You guys should think about broadcasting some of these classes on
Ustream or something similar.

Thank you for volunteering! That really is a great idea, as there's no
concern about parking or seating if a bunch of people just want to watch
remotely. And ustream broadcasts can be recorded, for easy archiving of
events, if the presenter is okay with that.

Any random webcam and mic on a wireless laptop should provide an
easily-movable platform that could be positioned for a good view, right?
All we need is someone with time and inclination to show up and do it.
I'll be in Kansas City.

Woah, I completely missed this discussion somehow.
I'd really like in on this. However I have other obligations this
weekend now which would make me unable to attend.
If you guys are planning on recording this class, can someone at least
add me to the list for the materials purchase? Or is it too late for
that now?

If this class is only going to be an hour from 2-3pm this Saturday
It's possible I can broadcast on USTREAM from my htc EVO. I just need
to fashion a tripod of some sort for it.

I think it would be more helpful to, at the least, record it and post
it on the i3 youtube or something.

As for matterials, it takes about 1 pound of alginate for a head cast. the company sells them in 3 pound units for $30. So i have on the list 11 ppl so i got 4 bags. the guy has plenty in stock i can always add another bag or 2.

ALSO! we need hyrdocal for making the positive mold. I did not have the order infomation yesterday when i posted. The local supplier of that has a $150 order min, so i had to get four 100 pound bags at $45 a peice. hyrdocal cal is awesome stuff and we also need it for making our negative molds, so I don't think this will go to waste.

BUT i need some one to pick this up as well. It's in Warren. Can any one help?

later i will put out an email with tips to prep for having your head cast if  you are going to get in on the casting.

thanks
