what clients are available? is there any info on using this from python?
how do i start using hypertable?

Currently, the only API that is supported is a C++ API.  We're planning on using either SWIG or building a Thrift proxy to provide language bindings for all of the popular languages (including python).  This is a high priority issue and it is slated to go into the next minor release.

yes i d love a python client too, will the queries be like postgresql

We don't have an ETA at this point.  The highest priority issue we're working on is RangeServer recovery.  As soon as we finish that, we'll start in on the language bindings.  In other words, language bindings (including python) is the second highest priority thing in the pipeline.

Yes, the query style will be similar. But because of the architectural differences between an RDBMS like PostgreSQL and Bigtable clones like Hypertable, the query language will have different features than SQL.

Specifically, the language in Hypertable is called HQL, and you can read more about it here: http://code.google.com/p/hypertable/wiki/HQLTutorial

HQL is the acronym used by Hibernate for their query language as well.
